Guns magazine, November '06, bolt running

Too many times on THR I see people who have absolutely no idea how to properly manipulate a bolt action weapon. Not their fault, they have not been taught properly or copied some pudknocker clerk at the gun shoppe (you know the sequence, jerking on the bolt with a ham fist while holding the weapon at waist height while the buttstock flails in the air).
Clint Smith has an article with an excellent photo layout demonstrating proper bolt manipulation in the November 2006 issue of GUNS, page 26.:)
I highly recommend it.

I'm gonna look it over next time I'm browsing in Borders or Barnes & Noble... !

I'd be the exception given that I normally cycle the bolt whilst looking through my scope! The butt remaining on my shoulder not only speeds up the reloads, it gets me tighter groups which I suspect is partly due to the lack of the whole dismount, mount routine.

No kidding!! I had somebody once try to demonstrate me that there was no way Lee Harvey Oswold got off 3 shots with a bolt gun at a moving target. He grabbed a bolt gun off the rack and proceeded with the "snap, drop rifle, cycle, remount, snap, repear."
I showed him the method I've used in matches with an old 03 (slap bolt up and back, rotate hand to slap bolt forward and down, with rifle in shoulder) and the light bulb went on over his head!
Good to hear a gunwriter trying to help the masses learn the truth. Bolt guns don't have to be slow!

rockstar, don't know if you the exception, but you are doing it correctly.:)
wander, I could see that in my mind. There is a reason Smith calls those guys "pudknockers".:D
I agree it is very sad that this generation is being taught how to handle weapons via Hollywood and gun shoppe clerks.:( Clint Smith is no ordinary gun writer in that he has: 1. served in combat, 2. does not live in Los Angeles and write about beach volleyball and hotrods in addition to guns, 3. does not wear flowered shirts, 4. served in law enforcement in a non-podunk city, 5. has taught firearms handling for several decades.:D
Hopefully Clint Smith, if he starts publishing his books, will help correct this.:)
