Well, my SP-101 IS a 357 Mag...as such I don't see the need for a .38 special.

.38, the barrel is too short to get effective burn out of .357. Crony shows 25fps difference while muzzle flash and recoil were considerably more.

It says .357 on it, but it has Gold Dot .38's in it.

I don't actually own an sp101 , but I voted anyway becuase I plan to own one soon .. and I voted .357, because .. well, you might as well. Frstly 22 and 32 .. well screw that, that seems silly. 38 ? Well, I'm never sure why anyone ever buys a .38 .. I mean , why buy a 38 when you can buy a 357 and have the option of which caliber suits the job ? And as far as 9mm .. I shoot 9mm at the range plenty .. its cheaper to shoot than my 45 or 357 , but as far as something I would carry, I'll quote one of my favorite lines on MadOgre.com .."Because no matter how you justify it, 9mm is still for women and pansies." :D

Kind of like Barnett, I have a 3" .357 (typically stoked with 135gr .38 +P)...except I now want a 4" .22lr. Been keeping my eye out for a local sale for over a year...

My SP101 is a 2.25-inch .357, " ... the one to have if you're only having one!" :D

That said, I find that I like the piece so much that I'm going to start keeping my eyes open for good deals on other calibers and/or other barrel lengths. The .22LR looks sweet.

As beefy & stout as that gun is, it was designed for the 357 magnum

Got the 3" .357 model.

Would love to get my mitts on a 4" .22LR model.

3" .357 - as heavy as it is, I don't see the point if you aren't using .357 loads. At least, for carry. It is the smallest gun that can handle the full-house .357 loads, and that is why it is so fantastic.

There are other, lighter guns that can handle the other lesser loads.

Ditto. I have a 3" in .357 and also keep some large bills folded in the wallet should I EVER come across a .22, which of course I will have to buy on the spot. Been looking for a couple years myself. Would prefer a 4", but would buy any configuration I come across in .22 (barrel length, underlug, sights). Can't believe what local gun stores charge for handgun transfers, but still may have to do it if I find one on line 'cause they just don't show up in person anymore.

Considering the cylinder size, it would probably have to be a "four shooter" in that caliber. Mine's a .357 and as others have said, I want to find a 4" .22 also.

Don't have a SP101, so I didn't vote, but do have the 6" GP100 which I love. I, too, would love to find one of the '101s in either 9mm or .22. If I ever buy one, I think I'd go for the .357 to have the flexibility of either .38 or .357. I think I'd probably go with the 135grSB GDHP as the carry load.

So many folks like this platform, and the 9mm/.22 seem to be in relatively high demand, so it would be great if Ruger would bring either/both back for a "limited engagement." If they did, I'd buy one of each in a heartbeat!

...in 3 1/3 bbl .357 mag. BUT, keep it stoked with Reinton's version of the FBI load.

Except for MAYBE the .357 Golden Sabre in 125 gr, I just think followup/noise/blast is excessive in that size gun vs a beefy .38spl load.

I bought mine in .38 Special about 3 weeks before they brought out the .357 unforunately for me.

I've been reflecting on my earlier post, where I said: My SP101 is a 2.25-inch .357, " ... the one to have if you're only having one!" I still think this, but with an additional thought. If only ONE .357, I'd want what I have: a 2.25" with exposed hammer. If I could have TWO SP101s, they'd BOTH be .357, but one would be a 2.25" bobbed hammer and the other a 3" with exposed hammer. THEN I'd start thinking about other calibers.

Had the .357 to the range this weekend. What a great gun! It handles full power .357s with ease, and .38s seemed downright mild. Definitely a keeper!

Mine's a .357 and as others have said, I want to find a 4" .22 also.

Must be THR karma or something: While browsing a local pawnshop today, I came across a .22lr SP101 ...first one I've seen in more than a year of searching. Unfortunately, it had a 2" barrel...and I'm really looking for a 4-incher.

Oh well, the search continues...

Mine's a 2.25" .357. Honestly, I don't see the point of other calibers in this particular gun. I've shot fire-breathing 125-grainers from this gun, and it's fine. My hand gets tingly, but the gun is just fine.

No offense to the owners of other-caliber SPs, but I think the heft of this gun screams "packable .357". For a .38, an airweight is plenty controllable; for a .32 magnum, an airweight is a no-brainer. They're much, much lighter and smaller to boot. For 9mm, I'll take a steel Kahr or Sig 239 with greater capacity and better trigger.

The .22LR makes sense to me, as a training gun for the .357. But I'd still rather spray and pray my .22 ammo with a 10-round semiauto.

To me, an SP-101 is a .357.

I voted 357 because they outnumber my 22 by a score of 2-1.
