Bar-Sto question for Sig owners.

The crown on my 10 year old 9mm P229 barrel is pretty dinged up. I don't think the accuracy is too bad, but maybe it should and can be better. Anyway, does anyone actually have a Bar-Sto barrel in their Sig? Is it worth the $200.00? Or, should I just have the barrel recrowned? I bought the gun used and use it for competition shooting. Total number of rounds down the barrel is unknown.

A good gunsmith can clean this up for you if it's a cosmetic bother. But,
if it's not really bothering anything anyway, why bother? Keep the dings
clean so they don't pock rust on you.

I have a used Sig226 that's about 16 years old and the slide is looser
than any of the others I've ever picked up. It runs flawlessly with the right
ammo and still cuts paper as well as I'm capable of shooting it.

I'll let you know as soon as the replacement barrel for my P226 9mm gets here in November.

The one that came with the gun had a mismatched serial #, was pitted on the hood (indicating mistreatment of the original gun), but the bore was clean. It shoots far more accurately than I can hope to at this juncture - but I'm replacing it anyway.

In your case, I'd say send the barrel to a good smith (Yost, et. al.), and get the barrel recrowned for $40.

I have a 229 with 40, 357 and 9mm Bar-Sto barrels. It's one of my favorites. The 9mm barrel is the most accurate of the 3.
Is the barrel "better" than the factory barrel? I can't say. What I do know is that the barrels FIT better than the factory barrel because they were fit by hand. I believe the fit makes the difference over the factory barrel.

Is it worth the money? It was to me, but if you can get the results you want with a re-crown then spend the money you saved on a nice dinner out with the family.
