I saw a large number of Ruger GP100's. They were DAO, having had the hammer spurs removed. The look lightly used and were around $250. Do you guys know anything about these? I'm thinking about picking one up. I've always thought the gp100's were indestructible....

Almost certainly police trade-ins. Batches of 'em show up now and again. I recommend running the checkout procedure of course ;) (first post in this forum) but if they pass, cool, they're a damned good buy.

we had a local shop running an ad for the same guns and seemed like a good buy if you were in the market for a mid-frame .357 mag. it must be a bigger number of guns on the market then i thought...i wonder which department traded in their rugers

I bought a pair of them for 225 bucks each here in Dallas. They are marked Arizona DPS.
Anyway, I couldn't be happier. They are perfect.
One cool thing is that they've probably never even had 357 ammo shot from them. I believe most departments qualify with 38spl. And most only shoot around 50-100 rds per year so the guns are in next to new condition. (please correct me if I'm wrong.) :)
The GP-100 is the one I'd choose if I could only own one handgun.

I think DPS stands for Dept. of Safety sorta like the Highway Patrol

I'd try to talk 'em down to $200, cause they're damaged (no SA ;-)... But, the price does sound reasonable.
