I hate these grips.

I bought a used, mint Smith and Wesson model
66-1 with 2 1/2 inch barrel with these grips:

The gun wouldn't fire my reloads reliably so I ordered a new mainspring from Wolff.

Only I'd never taken the grips off. And it didn't come with any tools to take them off.

So, after two ripped thumbnails and one chipped tooth, I got those suckers off.

Turns out it didn't need a new mainspring. Some idiot had simply backed the mainspring screw out about four turns.

But I'll never put those grips back on.

I ordered some of these from Smith:

They appear to be Hogue grips.

The new grips look beautiful. Post a pic when you get them on the gun.

Yeah, backing out the screw helps sell the revolver. People feel that light trigger pull and think they'll be able to bust the primers.

They are ugly grips. Totally without class.

Those new grips are nice, but I wonder how comfortable they'll be shooting that 2" .357 .. ouch.

I have a 65 with a set of these Hogue Bantam grips and I love it.

I think those are Ahrends grips made for S&W. I like them alot for my 66 snub!:)

The rubber grips have a pinky finger extension which is probably a good thing shooting .357 loads. The new grips are pretty and will, no doubt, be better for concealment. Nice revolver! I think the rosewood boot grips will be an excellent improvement.

Those are Hogue Bantams. My 3 inch 66-3 came with them as well as the original wood grips in the box.

I liked them so much that I bought a set for my 686 and 617 - they are quite smaller and thus more concealable than the factory monogrips.
So now all my K and L S&Ws feel as much the same as possible.

A tool comes with those grips but if it's missing, one can use a pair of credit cards to remove them.
