Anyone have any thoughs on the Para-Ordnance Hawg models? I am also considering The Walther P99 (I know it is plastic but liked the feel of it). I do want to feel the Springfield Mini 1911 first before making a decision. I even like the Taurus models size and weight wise but I do not want DAO. :)

Well, i personally like the Walther. Also, the Walther PPKs and P22s are pretty cool

but I've been shooting and collecting firearms all of my adult life, and I'm 58! Anyway, I had a chance to fire the Walther 9mm and am pleased to report it was pleasant to shoot, very accurate out of the box and a pretty good deal from a price point. Would I buy one, NO! There's just too much plastic in the gun for me, doesn't mean it's bad though...

Which Taurus model do you mean?

If by chance it's the Millennium Pro, they are now no longer made DAO, but "SA/DA". Single action when a round is chambered, but with a second strike capability on a light primer, etc..
(I have the DAO, and just ordered the new SA model.)

I was really looking into the Hawg before I got my PT-145, but a lot of people seemed to have really finicky Hawgs at the time, so I passed. (My Mil Pro has turned out to be very un-finicky and it filled all I wanted in that gun niche except having SA, and now that's covered too).
:)

Torpid,

I pretty much liked all tne smaller Taurus models but my 2006 gun gude listed them mostly as DAO. It might be out of date.

If you're talking about the double stack 10 round Para, no. Just can't warm to that model. I've got a P14 and a P12 and love'em, but that stubby little critter just turns me off.

PlayboyPenguin, it's not easy to be able to know what's up with the Taurus product line because Taurus marketing/sales info is either 3 steps ahead or behind of their product line. They also really need to just rename each revision of the Millennium series, IMO.

Safe to say, right now you have 3 options on the market regarding the Millennuim series:

Gen 1 DAO Millenniums (AKA the "frame cracking" generation).
Slide says "Millennium" on one side, "PT-(model number)" on other.

Gen 2 DAO Millennium PROs (Smoothed out DAO trigger, and no cracking problems- what the Millennium should have been to begin with. It's what I currently have, and it's been great and reliable for me).
Slide says "Millennium PRO" on one side, "PT-(model number)" on other.

Gen 3 "SA/DA" Millennium PROs (Single action trigger with second-strike capability on FTF, Heinie straight-eight sights... this is what's now coming out of the factory, and I have one coming).
Slide says "Millennium" on one side, "PT-(model number) PRO" on other.

You can still get the older versions used and NIB as well if you look around online.

...Whew!
Don't know if you actually want the info, but there it is anyway.
:)
