Hey, guys,
I want to hear from you guys who own a K40. I am thinking pretty hard about getting one in the next week or so.
I am looking for experiences, both positive and negative, regarding this pistol.
I have read a few threads, but am still in need of some information. The one I am looking at is Stainless Steel.
Thanks,
Stinger

Love my early blue K40; I understand that they discontinued the blue guns over finish issues and I can believe it- mine has excessive holster wear. Mechanically it's great, but I need to have it refinished with one of the super high tech coatings.
Very well fit and machined little piece and sort of a bear to disassemble/re-assemble for cleaning because of the close tolerances.
Overall I'd buy another one without hesitation. I like the little dinky MKs.

I have a K40 Stainless Covert (the one with shortened butt). I like it a lot, bought it used for $399, before I saw they were one sale at CDNN for the longest time too, but I don't think so anymore, they were not in the newest catalog.
Harder to shoot quickly than my USP40, but of course, it has a shortened grip and is smaller overall. But still very accurate, and hasn't given me any problems. It will be my winter carry gun.

I have a K40 Elite with the night sights. It has been 100% right from the start, but I am disappointed with fit and finish. Nothing major but for the price it should be perfect.
The recoil is not bad at all but I just don't seem to be very accurate with it, might be the ammo I've been using though.
It also dents the brass pretty good too, the mouth is "D" shaped when ejected. Not a big deal unless you reload though.
It's a good little pistol if you can get a good deal on one and if you want a small .40 .

THe MK40 may well be one the ultimate short barrel carry pistols. MIne is one of the early ones with night sights and in stainless steel. It is 100% reliable and accurate enough to hit soda cans out to 25 yards.
The pistol is small enough to carry in a pocket holster if you can handle it and in a good belt holster you quickly forget it is there. The .40 S&W cartridge, IMHO makes a better self defense cartridge out of a 3" barrel than a .45 ACP yet cuts a bigger hole than 9mm/.357 bullets. While many .45 loadings lose power out of such short barrels the .40 S&W seems to suffer less velocity loss.
While I type this I have a G36 Glock in .45 on my belt but for deep concealment and comfort the MK40 remains my pistol of choice when the weather gets really hot and humid.

My everyday carry pistol is a K40. No complaints here.

Ive owned one/carried it and we have 5 in my family..dad, brother etc....they are one of the best of the best. The recoil is gonna be there..in a little gun you cant get away from it...but its all relative. The 40's/9's Ive shot have been stellar/accurate/dependable and just plain damn nice guns.
Get one..you wont regret it
shoot well

My K-40 Elite is my favorite carry piece. It's been totally reliable and is more accurate than a gun that small deserves to be!

Thanks for the replies!
I went ahead and picked one up today. It is a K40, but is nickel, not stainless. I shot 60 or so rounds this evening, and it is a pleasure to shoot. No hiccups or anykind.
I think I am going to be pleased.

Word of warning about the nickel finish....be careful what you use for cleaning the piece. Some solvents are not recommended for nickel. I have a K9 in the electroless nickel finish, and try to be cautious.

Hoppe's cleaners stronger than #9
These are the two that come to mind most quickly. Look very carefully at the labels before buying anything. Also, don't be afraid to call the manufacturer and ask for customer service. That has helped me quite a bit.
WD40 is safe, and I believe that Hoppe's #9 is OK, as well, but I think that I'll call them and confirm. Below is an e-mail that I was able to find from Hoppe's.
