Iam considering trading my Colt 80 Series Combat Commander in 45ACp for a Golck 31 in 357 Sig compensated. Both are like new in the box. Is the Colt worth much more? Opinions? Have many other 1911 style 45 Acp pistols...hot for 357 Sig

I would not trade a Colt Commander for a Glock, even though I think the Glock is great.

I'd hold off on the trade. The Colt is definitely a better weapon.

Not to mention .357 Sig is a bit more expensive and harder to find than good ol .45 ACP.

From a lot of experience with the round, I can tell you that the 357 SIG easily puts out sufficient levels of obnoxious noise and blast w/out the ports. Regardless of what you end up doing, I'd rethink the ports.

If the Commander is a good shooter, I'd hang onto it for GOOD! Then buy a new re-issue Colt Series 70 Government .45.

Then a Browning Hi-Power in .40! :D Then another Hi-Power in 9mm.

Well, ok, THEN I'd add a Glock 19 to the stable. ;) But NOT a compensated Glock by any means. And I'd be leery of a .40, 10mm, or .357SIG in a Glock... they've just had too many occurrences of buldged cases and KABOOMS for my comfort level. But a Glock in 9mm would be a nice way to round out a gun collection.

This stuff amazes.

There is nothing more personal than a person's like and dislike for a particular sidearm. We, zillions of miles of network away, are going to make the choice for pistolero6869? Right.

My bet, though, is that he'll wanna try out the Glock (before buying, preferably!). If the Colt's so much to his liking, why's it still like-NIB?

Well-loved pistols are worn and shot!

Ultimate choice is yours, ask yourself:

What purpose is gun for?
does it fit your hand?
Which do you shoot best?
a platform that you can consistently get hits quick?
compensated for CCW -good /bad?
Ammo: will it restrict practice, competition later (playing games -even just to train. Availability, cost?
How did trade come about approached by another--why he initiated the trade?

I know my answer, but this is your choice.

Guys

I wasn't Glock Bashing!
My point that no one thought of is that if you Trade a weapon you will take it in the shorts!
If he decides that the Glock is what he really wants then he will be much better off selling it out right!
A Dealer will give him peanuts for the Colt and want "Boot" for the Glock as well!
Besides how will he build up a collection if he always trades and doesn't just make a purchase!

Iam considering trading my Colt 80 Series Combat Commander in 45ACp for a Golck 31 in 357 Sig compensated I don't really appreciate the value of barrel compensation for defensive pistols.

Especially so that the Sig round has got a big muzzle flash. You may be blinded by the flaming V's coming out them blowholes every time you fire, not to mention the extra cleaning you have to do every time you go out and practice...

I'm a hardcore 1911 fan but have no biase against most firearms. If I were you I'd seriously think about holding on to the Colt and buying the Glock.

Many of us have regrets about selling firearms. Don't join the crowd.
