Uberti "Yellow Boy?"

This is a weird one for me. I've always been into modern rifles, but had a "closet thing" for the old lever-actions.

Today at the gun shop I saw an Uberti 1866 Sporting Rifle, with a rather "sporting" price tag on it. I was in love.

Trouble is, I don't know diddley about Uberti's quality or prices. All I know is that every rifle I have is flat black. It would be nice to have a "looker" once again, and one that would be fun to shoot.

If I could ever make this happen, I'd suppose I'd get it in .45 LC, given the popularity of cowboy action shooting.

Any feedback on this rifle?

Thanks for any replies.

Uberti makes most of the Colt-type single actions, black powder revolvers, Winchester and Henry lever guns, and other Western firearms that are sold in the US. Their guns are marketed by Navy Arms, Dixie, EMF, and Cimmarron, among others, and by Uberti themselves.

The quality of their Winchester style rifles is absolutely first rate.
Both the Winchester 1873 copies I had were as good if not better than originals. Probably the best color casehardening I've ever seen was on my Uberti 1873 rifle.
Both the rifle and the carbine shot surprisingly good groups.

They are pricey, but they are finely made firearms.
The 1866 brass frame rifles look fantastic, and always draw a crowd at the range, but my favorite has always been the 24 inch barreled, color cased 1873 rifle in .44/40. This is the original Winchester caliber, and it's seems "right" in that caliber.

Expensive, but fascinating.

44-40..fire blued barrel. Slickest action I've ever seen. Unfired at this point...just never got around to it...but I will

good "mate" to my 44-40 1873 Colt SAA

Outstanding guns. I've had two Yellowboys -- one I sold during tight financial times and it was stolen before I could buy it back, the other is among my "will never sell" firearms.
