It has been a long time since I did any reloading for my .222rem and I now have a .223rem that I want to load for. I plan on buying some powder today at noon and can't remember what powder I used to use for the .222. I meant to look in my log book before I came to work but didn't.:banghead: I want to say it was IMR 4198 but not positive, does that sound right??.

What powder to you suggest that I can use for both .222rem and .223rem??

4198 would be a good stick powder...probably what you were using.

I would also look at:

Varget
H335
BLC2
RL10
IMR3031

Those are fun to load for...not too much powder but a whole lotta velocity. :)

dtalley,
I have found 24.2 grains of Vihta Vouri N133, CCi small rifle benchrest primers, Hornady 40 grain V-Max and Remington brass will shoot less than 1/2" out of my CZ 527 in .222.
I have had good results in the past with Imr 4198, BLC2 & W748 in an old Savage 840 in .222 as well.

I had good luck with Varget, W748, and H4895 in my 223. I don`t load for the 222.

MR 223 is a military 223 powder adopted by Accurate Arms as AA 2230

IMO 4198 is too fast

Surplus a similar Accurate powder is Data 2200 or data 220C (Wideners and Natchez last had it at $8 lb in 8 lb jugs)

Varget works well for me 25.5 grains under a 60 grain vmax.

I've got a new set of .222 dies I'd send to one of you guys. Had them about fifteen years, never used them. Think they are RCBS, in a green cardboard box. IM if interested. Anyway, I use IMR 4895. Works great in my Ars. I used 4198 but it was too hot for my Garand so I switched to 4895 for all my rifle loads.

I use H335 in my .223.

Hodgdon's "magazine" manual says H335 was Bruce Hodgdon's favorite powder for varmiting with a .223

the .223 thing was covered pretty good mabe a month or two ago. It seems like there are a lot of powders that work pretty well.

I use Varget per the recommendation of a friend that shoots .223 at Camp Perry. Shoots well under an inch in my AR with Nosler BT's, so that's where I quit looking.
