I Will Now Eat My P22 Hat

I had a P22 when they first came out. My old one spit, ejected shells in my face, on my head and up my shirt sleeve; I’ve trashed them and cursed them here and on other forums. I sent it back for repair so many times I finally asked for a refund and bought a Buckmark.

But I missed it.

So I bought another one. :D

(Two-tone gray-blue set with both size barrels). Another thread described it as cute. I agree.

It still ejects shells in my face. But it is ONE FUN GUN. I’m still going through the break-in period and there are some (literally) rough edges to work out. My first time at the range with it was so much fun because I intended to spend only an hour shooting it; I lost track of time and ended up there for over two hours.

Its design really makes one work on muscle memory, grip, stance, concentration, etc. I believe that if one can learn to shoot accurately with this little gun then you will be a better all-around pistolero.

Yes, it still eject shells up my sleeve and likes high-velocity ammo; but one thing I notice is that this one seems much more refined in workmanship than my low serial numbered original P22(s). AND it's fun (and cheap) to shoot.

My hat was delicious. :neener:

Im still up in the air on if i want one. I want a plinker but its kinda a throw up between a p22 and a 22/45. Two totaly different guns, with pretty much different roles to be played. Darrin's p22 is just so much fun to shoot, and it looks cool in hand. Rod's 22/45 makes me seem like a marksman tho, even tho i hate its sights. who knows

Mine's at the doctor (Walther America) getting an attitude adjustment. Sometimes the little :cuss: would FTE, other times the slide would get caught on the hammer.

We'll see how much of an improvement it will be in about 4 days hopefully.

Oh, one more thing, the P22 is the reason I wear a hat at the range now. I'd say 1 in 40 rounds ejects onto my head. Never up my sleeve (yet).

Have any of you P22 owners tried CCI CB Longs in your gun? I shot a few rounds of it the other day in a rifle, and they were damn quiet. I'm sure they'd be just as quiet in the P22, but I wonder if they'll cycle the slide. Would anyone be willing to buy a brick ($5 for 100 here), try them, and report back?

CBs won't cycle the action on any rimfire semi-auto pistol that I know of and they probably won't feed from a mag. They are a lot louder in a pistol than in a rifle (still pretty quite).

I don't see why you are eating your hat. From what you describe, it sounds like that P22 is kind of a dog also. You have to feed it expensive high velocity ammo, it has rough edges and you still get brass in your face? Send that one back too!

The first one (two actually) also had safety problems, which were fixed later in production. That was the real reason for chucking it. Rough edges I refer to are the internal slide fit, which settle in after the break-in period; since the barrel is fixed, that is unimportant save for cycling time and FTFs. Like any new gun, I don't pass final judgement until after several hundred rounds - Stay tuned...

Expensive is relative. Is HV expensive compared to el-cheapo $5.00 bricks? Yes. Expensive compared to decent 9 MM? Methinks not.

Every breed has it's own personality, maybe I'm warming up to this dog.

CCI CB Longs wont cycle the pistol. but they feed fine (at least from mine)

i shoot them with my suppressor attached...all you hear is the hammer fall and the bullet hitting the target ;)

IIRC, the Remmington Golden Bullet 550 piece value pack sold at wal mart is less than 10 bucks, and those, according to the box, are high velocity ammo. How much cheaper do you want?

By High velocity I thought you meant CCI Stingers or Mini Mags or some other expensive .22lr load. I have heard a lot of people say they have to feed this type of ammo in the P22 to get it to feed. If it feeds regular hi velocity .22lr that is no problem.

CCI Stingers are about $4 a box and I can get bricks of regular .22lrs for $8 on sale at Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

Not meaning to sound negative but, I still don't know why anybody would buy one of these pistols knowing how problem riddled they are.

Not meaning to sound negative but, I still don't know why anybody would buy one of these pistols knowing how problem riddled they are. Because it's not all of them. I talked with a guy at the gunshow last month and he's had two that worked flawlessly.

Mine has minimal problems that should be easily corrected. We'll see in a couple days.

Besides, when it works like it's suppose too, it's a dang fun .22 handgun! ;)

Darrin's gun has went bang on almost every trigger pull. Few dead 22's is to be expected Id think. I had it failure to feed once on me. Id think about one if they were a hair bit more accurate....or could take a red dot easily :D. 22/45 for me i think tho.

dang it tho the p22 looks and feels so cool :D

Banix - thus the hat eating. :D

Methinks (mehopes) it should be: "WERE problem riddled." Time will tell. :scrutiny:

It's a saga, and it continues...

I bought the first one I saw, very early production. Never had any failures of any kind. Broke it in with 100 rounds of Mini Mags to start, eats all I've tried in it since. And fun as well once you get used to catching a casing in the forehead every so often.

how much is the going price on one of these nowadays? i'm asking because i just saw a walther BB repeater (co2 powered) version of the P99 at big 5 for $249...how much more is the .22lr version

I've seen the short barreled version for $229 and the longer barrel for $259 normally.

So do you want a BB gun for the backyard or a .22 LR for the range?

sounds like i'm gonna be in the market for the p22 right after i pick up the p99. i thought the bb gun sounded a little high...but it did say walther on it...i think the $20 p99 airsoft pistol will have to hold me while i save the money

750 rounds and counting. Nary a hiccup.
