It looks at the moment like the front runner is Ban Ki-Moon of South Korea, whose only public pet issue has been nonproliferation of nuclear weapons.

I wonder if it'd be an improvement?

And breathe a bit easier...Neither Jayantha Dhanapala, the Sri Lankan who led the small-arms efforts, nor Prince Zeid al-Hussein of Jordan have secured the necessary votes to continue.

Anybody but Kofi Annan, may be better. However, one of the following needs to happen, USA dumps UN, UN is disbanded, or UN undergoes EXTREME OVERHAUL.
