View Full Version : SCARY, sacry Scenario!!!?!?!?!?!

I will outline this in the first person:

I am walking around the neighbourhood with my wife (little sweetie:) ) for an after dinner constitutional.
We, as usual, are armed with two handguns. She usually wears a fanny pack when walking and I always have an IWB, cell phone in pocket, and I have a folder.

It is a nice NIGHT :) and I am walking past a park (wooded area) etc. (YELLOW)

Coming through the park is a group of rowdy young men approximately 20-30 I assume they have just left a party etc. (ORANGE)
It is quite dark and they are not easily distinguishable. They seem to be walking on an angle that will intercept my route along the footpath (sidewalk).
I quickly decide to cross the road and begin to escort Mrs. HS/LD in that direction....
wouldn't you know it the young gentlemen alter course and increase pace to intercept us again..... (CODE RED):what:

The group at this point is aproximately 25-35 feet away, easily covered in a matter of a couple of seconds...

Apart from altering course to intercept me they have not shown other signs of aggression. Could they be coming to ask a question about the location of the nearest liquor store????

Questions:

Now I can run very damn fast and I am fit. ON MY OWN I see no reason to not do an about turn and increase pace as needed... but I have "little sweetie" with me...

What would you do?

and

Do you wanna know what happened?? :D

Regards,

HS/LD

Might be some kids wanting to "witness" to you but I'd be moving toward cover and getting contact with butt of weapon and decide my strategy("honey you take 5 on left and I'll start on right, center of mass front sight")> I wouldnt present until violence was begun as in watch hands.

-"hey sweetie, give you a head start and race you back?"
-"embrace sweetie with passion, hiding fact CCW are -at hand"
-" assertive tone "gentlemen, nice night, may I assist somehow?"
[wife is weak side-allowing you to hide her access to CCW]

OK, what happened?

At this point, I'm going to change direction drastically, and quite possibly move off the "paths".

Do you carry a bright flashlight? I normally carry a 60+ lumen surefire, which is going to let me see them, and let them see nothing.

''Interesting'' scenario!! With my distrust of youth and large numbers of them in particular ... i would for sure have a hand on the piece ..... and be watching their actions VERY closely.

But of course .. could be totally innocent ........... preparedness seems the order of the day .. and if possible a change of course to avoid an intercept. if they continued to approach again then ....... be VERY alert.

I would mentally prepare myself for the confrontation... establish immediate threats and communicate quickly on who lanes of fire... etc.

As they neared 10 - 15 feet I would simply say, "Hey fellas, what's goin on this evening?" Usually this would cause them to stop and think. Yet from here on out I'm not sure what action to take, it depends on the situation.

If they're all laughable and jovial... no problem, but remain in Condition Red... could be an act. Yet, I'll be cordial and be cool with em.

If they go to attack or whatever... I'd be drawing and following my training...

Then call the cops...
Then call your lawyer...
Don't say anything until your attorney arrives.

Tom

Added: I'd prolly cahnge direction again and speed up a bit... avoid confrontation... If they are just some drunk guys... usually a friendly non confrontational tone is enough. Be polite. Only when you aren't do most drunks get frisky.
BTW, I'm an authority on drunken behavior... I'm a Purdue Student.

Um first I wouldn't be walking around doing my after diner constitutional. I would rather do my constitutional in the john. What would I do about a large group that might be following me? Change direction again. What else is in the area? A busness ya could go in? I would walk away from the group trying to increase my distance. If ya run where are ya going to run to? While walking away from the group increasing my distance. I would get on the cell phone, called the cops & make some type of drunk disturbance complaint. Ya might have to be creative when telling the cops what kind of disturbance the groups is making. Do this with out telling the cops ya want to be seen. The last thing I would want to do is get in a fight w/ 20/30 persons. If the cops arrive leave the area. Don't talk w/ the cops or hang around to watch. Just get out of the area.

At 25-ish feet: hand on gun, turn square to face the crowd and address them directly "What's going on folks!"

Depending on their reaction, I either release my gun and go on my way or draw and re-assess based on their reaction to my draw.

What happened?!

sonoranjack: Um first I wouldn't be walking around doing my after diner constitutional. I would rather do my constitutional in the john.

Main Entry: 2 constitutional
Function: noun
Date: 1829
: a walk taken for one's health

How would you do that in the john?

Well I realised that I was in a bit of a spot, as it was now evident at some 20 odd feet that the young men were really trying to intercept us.

My mind raced as I tried to figure out all my avenues of escape.

While I was sure that I could defend my wife successfully I was not sure that someone was not going to be hurt or killed. If attacked by the group we would not hesitate to draw weapons an commence stopping each threat as it appeared.

My hand went to my gun as I "bladed" my body towards the young men.

My thoughts: 'Crap this doesn't look good'

My wife and I had stopped walking as the young men covered the complete pavement and my wife was about one step behind me.

Things looked really bad the men were looking at us very intently and did not seem friendly. In retrospect I believe that wanted to have some cruel fun at our expense, very unwise.

Suddenly a soft but very clear voice behind me says:

"Honey pull your shirt down your GUN is sticking out."

I didn't move.
The young men before me seemed broken from the spell and quickly walked back to the other side of the street with several backward glances.

I stood there watching them move on hand still on my gun, and thankful I married a quick thinking intelligent young woman.
As the young men moved on I turned to look at her pulling my shirt down over my pistol again. She produce here own pistol she had already drawn and was holding along side her thigh and tucked it safely back in the fanny pack.

"Beautiful night" she said smiling.

We wandered the rest of the way back home holding hands. :)

Great!! Just what I'd hoped. Again, as so often ..... the presence of the gun can be enough. I'll be honest - I have no wish to put slugs into anyone if avoidable ...... deterance is way to go whenever possible.

Biggest fear in the scenario you describe would have been if ''they'' produced guns ......... then I guess it would have down to you and your spouse having to ensure getting the drop on em.

Really scary I guess these guys didn't want to save your souls. I dont like brandishing a pistol for fear factor (as it gets YOU arrested) but I think this was perfect esculation, kudos to "your better half".:)

Good outcome -- and a vivid demo of why we should date and marry humans and not sheep. You may have been at more risk on your own (or now, as you could have run) than with reliable backup and quick wits provided by wifey.

She certainly is a 'keeper'.

There is a reason I came all the way from New Zealand to be with her :D

To heck with it. If your wife has a gun as well, then she can protect you too. Guns are a great equalizer and so if she has a gun, she can protect you as well as you can protect her.

That being said, maybe she shouldn't be carrying a gun if she is that oblivious to such situations. If she is that oblivious, then she is just a pack animal for a firearm.

FYI, the reference to a 'constitutional' in the john is actually quite appropriate. Notice the date of the definition for taking a walk for one's health - 1829. One might politely excuse one's self from formal company with the excuse of 'taking a constitutional' which actually was a euphemism for taking a walk...to the outhouse. There was no need to go into anymore detail than that.

But holding hands ain't TACTICAL!!! :D

On a serious note, is this here use of a gun a defensive use? You know, one of the 2 million defensive uses of a handgun that Sarah Brady doesn't believe happens.

Firstly pack animal with a friearm?
Hey thats my wife buddy!

I am not sure where you get that she was oblivious...
She was completely aware of the situation had moved to a position where she could draw without been seen (slightly behind me).
She had already drawn her pistol from the fanny pack and saw an opportunity to reslove the situation without actually presenting the handgun.

Maybe I didn't convey that as clearly as I could have.
Oh hang on, every one else got it.

Well done! Voice is the second step on the force continuum (after presence), whether you knew it or not. Again, good job to your wife.

Keeping yourself between your wife and the potential threat is a good idea anyway. So best to protect her. I'm happy she had the presence of mind to respond the way she did. No doubt, being with you and your actions increased her confidence and guts to respond as she did.

On a side note, I was thinking that you may have had an opportunity to approach someone's front door and knock on it had it gone differently.

Great outcome to a frightening and dangerous situation! You guys both did wonderfully.

With a life-partner like that I'd go into business. How can a duo like this not get rich and famous??

Seriously, she's a keeper.

WHAT A WOMAN!

HS/LD, give Mrs HS/LD a super hug and a kiss... The kind of woman every man should be so lucky, so blessed to have as a mate. Glad you two got home safe.

Continue the gene line please! (It goes with the super hug and a kiss noted above)

Listen to her when she speaks, but do discuss what if's, who was the leader, number of rds. available each vs. number of BG's, reloads, separation, cover, retreat...

And then give her another SH & AK...LOL

Isn't life wonderful

Adios

Great line from a great WIFE!!!

I shared that one with my wife she agreed your wife is very wise. What a great way to make people aware of your gun without having to actually pull it out of the holster. She is a very clever woman. All of us guys were reading your expierence thinking about who we would shoot first, and how many you could drop before you would have to reload. That is what I love about women. They don't have all that testosterone getting in the way. She thought through the situation and came up with a non confrontational option while you were still trying to decide what alert condition you should be in.

I agree with all of the other your wife is worth keeping around.
