Okay, I'm thinking about getting an Aimpoint as a good all-rounder optic for my FAL .308 carbine (16").

I want a 2MOA dot version.

Fortuantely, Aimpoint now has many models of different types that are available with their ACET system that allows for up to 50,000 hours of battery life.

I'm considering at first the Comp ML3 (http://www.ultimak.com/APCompML3.htm).

However, I've looked over the specs for the regular Comp C3 (http://www.ultimak.com/apcompc.htm). It's similar, but not quite so "mil-spec". The biggest difference I can find is that it's not waterproof to 45 meters like the M-series, but only to five meters.

To top it off, it costs almost a hundred dollars less.

Since I live in a desert, and submergence in the ocean really isn't an issue for my weapons, I wonder if maybe I wouldn't be better served by the Comp C3?

What do you think?

You really won't notice the difference. I've handled all of the Aimpoint, Trijicon, Eotech, and now Hakko optics. The best bang for the buck is definitely the C3. I have seen them for $330 out the door, and picked one up for my DPMS .308 AP4. It cowitnesses the irons, and the 2MOA dot is very precise.
On the other hand, if you aren't fixed on a dot, and Reflex RX09 is maybe the best thing going in a 1x optic. It is an amber triangle, and very clean. Notice how some red dots can look like clusters of grapes? The amber chevron and triangles eliminate that, and add the benefit of a rangefinding aid as well.
How much can you spend?
