Well, I took her out for some shooting...She shot the Steyr, the ruger, and the AR 15....She seemed to be having fun...but I think that she is done with it...Seems as if once were enough...How inexpensive would that be if it were true for all of us?:D

Anyhoo...I got some decent pics...I just wish I had pics of her with the AR 15.

That would be too bad if she only went out once.

If she was having fun the first time, it can't be any worse the second, third, etc time.

At least she shot them, if only once. Now give us the good pics. The ones with her in skimpy clothing along with a gun. ;)

^^^

Well...he gets a pass for that comment. She is pretty. Anyway...

If she goes again, try to get her to lean into it a little. That is the standard "How loud is this gonna be again?" stance. :)

Its good that she went. It'd be even better of she went regularly. :)

Yeah, consider yourself lucky. I couldn't drag my wife to a range.

She held a gun for me once...when I had finished off the mag and needed two hands for something else. She hasn't been back since and the only reason she went that time was because it was a family shooting event... When she held the gun, she held it away from her with that "I'm holding a live cockroach" look on her face...

Way to go... Now does she have a sister?

will your girlfriend give a call to my girlfriend and tell her it really is't that bad? and its maybe even fun? i finally got her to actually handle a gun, but i had to let her put moisturizing lotion on my face in trade. god i hate that slimey stuff. yuck. don't laugh, i'm trying to open a mind here people. you all should appreciate the sacrifice i made in an effort to help her overcome her fear of firearms.

Hey, I just sold a 240 DL just like that one. '87 variety w/ 86K. Good cars...

Tarpley, this is one of the 1990, 160K variety. And you are right, great cars...I had one of the 1985, 356K variety before I got this one....should have kept the 1985 though...she looked better than this one does now. But then again, this one sees more off-road than a hummvee.

Feanaro...Personally, I like my skimpily dressed women sans firearms...Guns at the range are cool but not in the bedroom.:p

Conorach...I was so busy trying to get decent pictures that I neglected to notice her stance. I did notice in the pictures afterwards though...I would expect that from a female newbie, and I can live with it...If I get her out there again, Ill start working on her stance. Then maybe some quickdraw drills, Tap Rack drills etc... Ya right.

I was also having a hard time getting her to choke up on the gun...Most of the time, the gun kept ending up like this:

That's not too bad, at least she's not using the "cup and saucer" grip.

Notice the pregnant woman stance. Either that, or all of a sudden, the gravitational pull of the Earth is not along the radius.

Tell her to lighten up her grip a little bit too. Just as tight as a nice firm handshake.

How'd she shoot? Did she make a can dance?

BTW, that Volvo is in Tactical White for Montana or New England in the winter.

arinvolvo
May 15, 2003, 01:55 AM
Ya she looks like she is white knuckling that thing....but I checked the grip tension numerous times...her grip is ok, she just has white knucles and bony looking hands ;)

She popped a couple of cans right off the get go...not bad for a newbie impersonating a pregnant woman with a gun...

Although I swear the weird sights on the steyr is the trick...she was not nearly as accurate with my Ruger 22 pistol, and that is supposedly a target gun.

She was dead accurate with the AR15....but that has a 40mm red dot on it...so it is kinda hard to mess up.

BTW, here is a little pic of the tactical VOVLO...she aint purty, but neither is an Abrams.:D

That's the way all 3 of my daughters stand.
I took my 24 old out Tuesday, and I had to remind her several times to lean into the gun.

My wife has gone shooting a few times.
She actually has two of her own guns.
If she shoots twice a year, about 30 minutes each time, then she's good.

I agree with the others, at least she went the first time.
You may be able to get her to go again.
Maybe pack a picnic basket for after. (With good hand washing supplies.)

Oh, edited to add: What targets did you have?
My girls enjoy it more with reactive targets.
Balloons, cookies that evaporate when shot, jugs of water that explode, etc.
Might make it more interesting for her.

As we were leaving the range Tuesday, my daughter said "It is so peaceful out here. Except for the people shooting guns, it is really nice." :p

What is that ugly gun she is holding?

May 15, 2003, 07:39 PM
took my wife shooting once... she liked it, but was i think a little intimidated by the gun (1911) and the indoor range and the NRA RSOs and the nimwit with a 44 Magnum next to us. Hell, that guy scared ME. And EVERYONE.

this was only maybe 4 months ago...

i don't put pressure on her to shoot, but she knows i think it'd be damned cool if she wanted to

the other day... "can we go rent a revolver? I wanna try one out. i think i might get one if i like it." :what:

sweeeeet!

i also have a waiting list of her blonde, young, democrat, voting friends who want to go to the range. i'll be the coolest guy at the range the weekend i do that, i swear. :D :neener:

need to get me a .22lr to start these girls with, though

coorsleftfield...if you are going to insult my favorite pistol, at least follow it up by a smart ??? emoticon like: :neener: or ;)

And that ugly pistol she is shooting is a Steyr M9...there is a link in my signature that you can click to see an additional picture.

And even IF you think it is ugly, at least my girlfriend is hot. :neener:

My wife has been shooting with me exactly three times.

The first, I actually got her to try my .22 pistol, she fired a few rounds, and I was trying to explain sight picture, and how to line up front post and rear notch, when the next booth was occupied by a guy with a DE in .357 mag.

Not his fault, he was shooting safely, but the concussion drove her nuts and she had to leave the range. It was much more piercing than a revolver for some reason, and that she couldn't see exactly when to expect the next blast just set her nerves on edge.

I really wish I could have found an empty outdoor range to shoot ballons or cans as well. No other shooters or noise, no pressure to follow barked range commands etc. This would really be worth the effort

The second time she came with as some friends and I shot. She sat against the back wall with my range bag and busied herself stuffing mags for us. You'd think this was great, but she was really just trying to get us to burn ammo faster so we'd leave and go shopping at the mall for her "turn". :scrutiny:

The third time, she came once to the trap club when I first started shooting clays with my work leauge just to see what it was all about. She came directly from work in her own car, so she watched my squad and I for one round, then left. :(

That's it in the 7 years I've known her, and the 5 we've been married.

I have to try something, maybe even just punching cans with Airsoft in the basment, I dunno...

My wife was until recently a total Anti gunner...Then I convinced her to go shooting with me at the indoor range.

I now have to fight with her to share my (Her) Xd 9mm with me. I turned my back on her yesterday at the range and she got ahold of my Colt 1911 and burned up 3 mags while I went to grab a soda. Of course she doesn't like to load mags or clean guns, Those chores are up to me. Mind you, she knows how to load a mag, but doesn't like doing it.

We now go shooting about every other weekend. Range time is followed by a mandatory trip to a nice lunch.

So far her tally of guns shot is as follows:

Ruger .22
Springfield XD 9mm (her favorite)
Taurus .357
Colt Gov.45

I told her yesterday that she has to start buying her own guns!!:D --OneShot

man, that's great.

I've been a pretty big failure getting the SO (now fiance) to shoot with me.

I managed to get her to try my 10/22 plinking cans about 6 months ago, but she wasn't feeling well (head cold) and didn't really enjoy it.

I'll keep trying, though (she's not an anti, she just doesn't like them personally. she thinks it's fine that I have them, and use them)

My wife is VERY pro gun and pro 2Amendment.But she has only gone shooting like 2 times.I think she just has this feeling that are other things she need to be doing.I know there are other things I need to be doing too,but I shoot anyway.:D I'm trying to talk her into getting her pistol permit,I think all women should carry in this day and age.

AndrewWalkowiak,

I had a similar situation the first time I took my wife to an indoor range. Guy two stalls down was shooting a Desert Eagle in .44 mag!!! (And flinching like crazy.) She definitely enjoys an outdoor range more.

One thing that really helps is to wear both good earplugs (like the tapered bright-colored foam ones at Wal-Mart) and good earmuffs over the earplugs. Really helps with the noise factor. (My wife said the concussion issue was the single biggest thing that she had to overcome, and doubling up on the hearing protection really helps.)

AJ Dual
May 22, 2003, 03:49 PM
Actually, I was concerned about the same thing. I had my wife wear foam plugs, and Silencio brand earmuffs.

Still no dice.

There's a few outdoor ranges I've been looking into joining. The private ranges are often near-empty on days not near deer season sight-ins and matches, so that would be perfect for low-noise, low pressure shooting sessions. But even those have so many rules something fun like breaking clays, or baloons at 15 yards is verboten. One place won't even allow sillouete targets, only NRA bullseyes. (like that'll make a difference and keep the anti's 'away' )

With that .357 DEagle, the concussion was very strong, you could feel it on your skin more than hear it. I don't even think it was how loud it was, she couldn't anticipate it, and that is what frightened her and made her flinch.

She was fine the other time she loaded mags for us when we shot, there were actually more in the range that time than the first, but it was your more usual assortment of .38's, .45's, 9mm's, and .22's.

My other main problem is that she's decided she just isn't interested, and she's the stubborn type that won't reverse her self just not to look like she changed her mind. She want's me to get more involved in volunteering at the community theater she stage manages at, perhaps I'll bargain some range-time out of her for it. But then my major worry is if she does get interested in shooting, she'll realize just how much is in my collection, and times will be tense for that period she's a shooter, but dosen't have "the addiction" yet.
