A beautiful dagger

Don't have pics yet. So it was around $30. Double edged, with pointed tip. 0.05 m blade. All black (including the blade minus the edge). Would love to carry concealed, but am getting lots of gotcha from reading up on it.

Only complaint is that the retention needs to be more secure.

Most daggers are illegal to carry. Check your state and local regulations on knife carry. Who makes it? What model?

Don't remember the model. Picked it up at the mall (of all places). Has a decent holster that has some concealing goodness. Scanning the laws, it looks like a bad idea all around to carry concealed. Being a fixed blade and being a dagger is bad. Bummer.

If you'd like a pretty cool fixed blade to carry. Look at the Spyderco Moran model. Very cool knife and the kydex sheath is very adjustable (horizontal to vertical belt carry). http://newgraham.com/detail.aspx?ID=5213

I'm still experimenting with this one. Enjoy

"Daggers" are a big problem for carry. Issues with fixed blades vary from state to state. Certainly the fixed blades are quite legal for outdoor use such as hiking and hunting. Intent is a big part of the law... as in "intent to go armed".

Looks nice. May not be as much a problem as the dagger when the lawyers step in.

Welcome to THR.

I don't usually suggest fixed blades for carry by most people, with the exception of certain workers with other tools on their belts, or by hunters.

The Spydie Moran would be a good choice for most of those who would reasonably use a FB, though. :)

JShireley: is that a legal or technical reason? If it is legal, I think "zero weapon laws" speaks for itself. If it is technical, this is why I am a little annoyed at the retention.

Cybert,

The fact that you used a metric measure for blade length,0.05m, leads me to suggest that you are not posting from the U.S.

If so none of us can provide much help on legality for you.

Remember that you will carry this knife a lot and use it little (let's hope never to defend yourself). Carrying a fixed blade day in and day out isn't as easy as a folder. It also tends to draw more official attention than a folder because it's not as easy to conceal.

As an update, I've decided to go with something more expensive. I found some marks of poor craftmanship on it. The design is still to die for. I love a good, symmetric, no-nonsense instrument. Pics later!

From the US. All I can say, is "Dawkins (a prominent atheist) bless the USA!!!"

I like metric. Guess I'll be carrying a 9mm :).

Retention will not be a problem with the Spydie Moran by the way. You can carry the thing upside down (tactical) if that is your preference. I am leaning toward vertical carry on the Moran model with a loose shirt, but the angled horizontal carry really makes the knife quickly accessible. It just sticks out a bit.

Depending on your budget, you might look at some of the Bob Dozier custom knives. There are several fixed blades that are small, look at the Canoe and Whittler models. They run $200ish depending on the handle material you choose. Bob's Sheath A is a work of art in terms of design. Amazingly simple design that holds a blade very securely on the belt horizontally. He makes a fine fine knife too! http://www.dozierknives.com/ if you're interested.

I am not advocating carrying a fixed blade knife. But if that is what you want to do and you understand the liabilities, go for it. I like to play around with knives, but frankly I carry a folder every day (several actually) a SAK and a SOG Blink. The Blink is a tad small and I will be getting a Twitch in the coming months.

Folding knives are the most popular for carry. You might take a look at a SOG Twitch II. Very fast. Go to the SOG website for info. http://www.sogknives.com/twitch.htm
