looking for a scope for marlin 44 mag, something low power 2.5 or so. I was wondering if a shotgun scope would work? Both a short range guns?
Thanks.

They work well! The paralax (focus) is usually 35 yards or so. Obviously the better ones should hold up to recoil. I use one(2.5x Weaver) on my .44 mag Remington 788 and it works very well!

Actually the Leupold and a few others have the parallax set at 75yds and are pretty suitable for short-range rifle use. I've used them on .223s out to 300yds.

I've got an Optronics BuckRidge shotgun/blackpowder scope mounted on my TOZ-78 (Tula) .22 boltie. It's cheap, compact, and has a cool reticle, and I figured that if it was really designed for a shotgun, it should have no problems on a .22.

So far I've only shot it at 50 yards, but it works very well.

Thanks. I knew the parallax was set for about 75 yards on some. I'd read that rifle scopes wouldn't holdup on pellet rifles, didn't want anything to happen using shotgun scope on rifle
