Time for a Garrand beauty contest. :what: Anyone care to post pics of the other "man's best friend"? Also, it would be cool if there were before/after shots with a description of what it took to get her "right". I'm presently awaiting a Greek Field Grade from CMP. Just hoping the new "baby" arrives in good health. :D

I bought this one from a Ist National Bank maybe 30 years ago.
It looked like this when I bought it.

I got this Danish M1 from CMP last year. I used Easy Off on the wood to get the grease out and it's got two coats of True Oil. A little steel wool and 2-3 more coats of True Oil should finish it.

M2 - if we had a "worship" smiley I'd be using it right now. Your two fine specimens only reaffirm the fact that the M1 Garand is one of the most beautiful rifles ever made.

And here was THE most beautiful one made.
A brand new International Harvester M1 that the USMC issued to me in 1956. It shot hi Expert for me.:)

Thanks all. Some really beautiful M1's displayed here. It certainly gives me something to "shoot for" when my CMP Greek arrive. What has impressed me most is some of the stocks shown. I've been told that some of the Greek stocks can be on the rough side. If it arrives in really bad shape I'm going to order the American Black Walnut stock from CMP. Does anyone have any experience with the CMP stocks. Also, some one mentioned using a small amount of bee's wax when refinishing a stock (not really sure what they meant by that). Thanks to all who posted.

The best one I've ever seen belongs to "ocabj"...hopefully he'll be along in a little while.

While you're waiting, here's a sample of his (by Dean's)

If anyone hasn't been to the CMP website recently, they are now out of M1917 rifles as well. They only have field/rack grade Garands, .22 target rifles, and air rifles.

Thanks, iamkris. It is a great looking rifle. I'm sure there are more out there by DGR that look just as good, if not better. People just need to photograph them to share the beauty with all of the firearms enthusiasts out there.

Mine...5408627...and a sweet shooter it is. Everyone American should have the opportunity to own/shoot a Garand.
