10mm or 45 Super conversion for G30?

Which do you think would be the better conversion for a Glock 30 and why? I'm wanting the ability to shot a hotter round for a 'woods' gun, and for the fun factor. Note that I don't reload my own. So far here are my short notes on the two:

10mm conversion:
Cost - new barrel and new recoil spring < $200
ammo more readily available than super 45
magazine issues?
would have to swap barrels to shoot 45 acp

45 Super
Cost - new barrel and new recoil spring <$200
should be able to shoot 45acp with same setup
buffalo bore only commercially avail super 45 I've found

And yes, I know that for a true 'woods' gun a 44mag, 454, 45/70, shotgun, pepper spray, remove front site, etc are all possible choices. I just want a comparison of the 45 Super vs the 10mm.

Don't quote me (or try it) but i dont think you need a new barrel for .45super, just stronger springs and new brass.

Makes for a good argument to reload :)

I was thinking of turning my norinco into one :)

I think Texas Ammo used to have .45 Super, too.

I think TAC went out of business. I am a big fan of the 10mm but don't have anything against the .45 Super, either. Ammo for the .45 Super is even more obscure than for the 10mm Auto. That is probably its only fault.

I hate to say this, but it is the THR way: get both.

I don't think a barrel swap will work if you want to shoot 10mm from the G30.

As I recall, the entire slide has to be changed out along with the ejector; and, of course, you would need G29/10mm magazines too.

That may only apply using factory parts, though.

I do believe there are aftermarket conversion barrels available if that's what you had in mind.

Yes, I would do an aftermarket barrel KKM whichever way I go (10mm or 45 super). KKM makes a 45 to 10mm conversion barrel for the G30 that only requires a stiffer recoil spring and G29 mags to shoot 10mm. I'd get an aftermarket 45 KKM barrel if I was going to shoot 45 super that provides more case support, along with a stiffer recoil spring.

Ace Custom was the originator of the 45 Super. They did not perform conversions on short bbl pistols. There was something with not enough slide mass to handle the round. Texas Ammo even had a line of cartridges called 45 Super Tactical especially for use in pistols that couldn't be converted, which was basically anything under a 5" bbl pistol. The Tactical rounds were loaded to hot +P specs. I'm not sure if Ace is still around or not. I always wanted one of their Smith&Wesson 4506's done up for the Super round.

Anyone have a link to KMM?

I'm not sure how the .45super compares to the .460 Rowland, perhaps they're similar. If so, I'd cast my vote for the .45super.
I must say, the last time I saw the paper ballistics for the .460 Rowland, the listed energy seemed much closer to the .44magnum than that typical of the .45acp.

Okay, KKM... that's what I was thinking of. ;)

You know, a 10mm gun has been on my want list for some time now. I'd always told myself I'd just get a G20 should I get around to it.

Maybe a KKM barrel for my G30 would be the ticket, though. Would a G29 recoil spring work, or would it need an aftermarket jobber? The G29 slide is a bit beefier than the G30, so I'd imagine it would still need a stiffer spring than a stock G29 version to compensate, or would it?

I would be inclined to go .45Super.

The classic conversion is found here:
A Kimber in .45Super for $8? (http://www.realguns.com/archives/020.htm)

Of course, he was using a metal framed, full sized 1911.
