Anyone tried using this stuff from Brownells. I have an OLD savage single shot 20 guage that I've cold blued over and over again. I thought on trying this stuff for $15.00 to see if it held up any better. Any PRO's CON's?

I have an old smith 38S&W that the finish was shot on. I used the bake on brownells finish to clean it up and use it for a tackle box gun.

Finish looks OK, not bright and shiny by any definition but pretty good for a utility type fishin gun, so far is holding up ok.

I have used it before. I am not impressed. I actually prefer Brownell's no-bake paint, AlumaHyde.

I second the AlumaHydeII over the baking laquers.AlumaHyde II is perfect for your application,a working gun.AlumaHyde requires no baking, air dry and very durable and resistant to cleaning solvents.
Prep is everything, remove all rust and grease/oil,mask off with 3M tape what you dont want coated.Coat the outside of firearm only and keep out of pin holes/threaded holes.Apply 2-3 thin coats and let dry for a week, yes it takes this long to cure.Buy the extra nozzles from Brownells, they really are handy.
I have done several guns so far and I like the product alot.I just did an older SIG P226 in the Dark Parkerizing color and it looks great.

you can buy a can of aerosol gun kote for about the same money.... much better than either of the Brownells products.

But pay damned close attention to the directions. If you do, you'll have a very pleasing result.
