I recently purchased a Mark II pistol and want to replace the rear sight. It is a Slab side target model. Any suggestions?
Is this a job for a gunsmith?
Thanks

www.millettsights.com has a nice replacement unit, or if your original sight is damaged you can get another from Ruger.
Pretty stright forward to swap them out. Just loosen the locking screw if it has one, and drift the sight out of it's dovetail with a brass or plastic punch. Ruger generally cuts their dovetails square, but most folks will remove from left to right.
If you have a local smith, I'd bet he would do it for just a few dollars while you wait.
Good Luck...

The previous owner messed the screw up that holds it in place. I took it to my gunsmith and had them look at it. They said no problem but would cost $40-$50. I think I will get a second opinion and quote.
Thanks for the info.
