Hey folks. I found someone who has a Norinco 1911 in fairly good condition. There is surface rust on the grip screws and surface rust "frosting" on parts of the frame. Mechanically it seems solid and should clean up, though it may need refinished. He's asking $399.

Blue book for 100% is $275. This one is more like 80%. Are the BB values realistic?

In very good condition they seem to be selling in the $400-475 range.

Considering the condition of the one you are looking at I wouldn't pay more that $300-325.

I paid $290 for mine in 95% condition. His price seems high but if Norcs aren't common in your area you may have no choice. You might look at the cost of a NIB Rock Island Armory in your area just to get some perspective.

I wouldn't be turned off by the surface rust. A little Hoppe's #9 and elbow grease has been enough to get rid of it for me in the past. FYI, my Norc rusted after I spent all day in the rain, so I wasn't too bent out of shape.

Just out of curiousity (because I already have one)... Who is trying to sell it for that much? I got a decent/good condition govmodel from Braverman's in Wilkinsburg for $300 I think.

Check out RangeUSA (www.rangeusa.com) in Memphis, TN. They still have a Norinco 1911 on consignment for $355. Unit was in good shape when I saw it last week.




edited: oops, placed price for wrong Norinco. Was $385 now $355. $185 was for a 9mm (Tokarev look alike). I have no financial interest in this pistol nor the range...I just shoot there!

I bought 2 sequencial ser #s when they first came out. Ended up selling the pair for 300.00 in very good shape. I never fully trusted them. I had quite a problems with them on the range fyi. Im sure a good gun smith could have tweaked them however.

If you don't mind, what kind of problems? Reason being that back in the day Bill Wilson would only build on Colt, Springfield or Norinco frames. Never had one myself, but based on that I always figured they would be pretty good shooters.

i have seen them brand new around here for $299-350, just depends on where you look, back home i am sure that i can get a better deal though.

I, too, would say $300 is fair.

That being said, I saw a NIB Norinco at a gunshow last month priced at $425. It did not sell. At that price, it was competing with the Springfield GI45. I suspect that some dealers are failing to see the Nork as a utility 1911, and have the "you can't git it anymore" mindset.

At $300, the Norinco saves you about $100 off the price of a new GI45, and it is a good deal/risk. Priced at the same level as the Springfield, it only makes sense to get the forged GI style pistol with a lifetime warranty.

I paid $360 total for mine NIB several months ago. I think $300 is pushing the envelope.

Any given day id go for the NORK over a springfield. For as long its been hack-free. IMO NIB NORK are extremely reliable with ball ammo but may encounter some slight probs with HPs. Would pay top dollar $500.00 max for NIBs. Got three; 1 commander, 1 standard, 1 factory enhanced - all box stock and all work great.

I bought a NIB Norinco a few months ago for $300. I considered it a bargain as most 1911-pattern pistols are unavailable here in Mass. It has proven to be a sterling performer; the only downside is its 7 lb. trigger pull. I would probably take one at $400 over the similarly priced Springfield GI just because I don't feel comfortable with MIM parts and would want to replace them.
