I was really thinking lately about getting my xd service model dura coated, not because there is any big issue with the finish like many people complain about, but just to chage things up a little bit. there is a guy up in topeka that does it his website is www.rmpgunworks.com. i was thinking about getting a neat cammo pattern that I have seen on some glocks lately, the digital desert. so questions are, is this stuff duraible and is it worth the money, or is it gonna wear off and basically be like throwing away the money to do it? any experiences? thoughts and opinions would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

I have done several firearms so far, and durability so far has been fine, surface prep and and surface prep are the most important parts, that and let it cure the full time before messing with it.

I have thought about doing it myself, with the DIY kit from lauer, but the preperation seems a little beyond my abilities. From what I hear, as long as the person doing it properly prepares the weapon first, it is very durable and worth the money.

I have also been interested in putting duracoat on my XD-45. I was interested in the color sniper green. Im just worried about the color not being exactly what I want.

Spray cans? Camo in layers I suspect. I'll dig a lil more, it's late. I'l like to make my new stainless ruger rifle not so shiny and was considering some work like this as a long term goal.

All the info you need to know about Duracoat.

I had a Colt Defender (stainless/aluminum) Duracoated black after I had some custom work done on it. Flaked after a few weeks, but the company re-did it under warranty and that was three years ago. It is my EDC gun and has held up very well. I bought a kit from Lauer and did my SKs (truck gun) and it has held up well.

Do a search, as there have been 4 or 5 threads about Duracoat recently. Correct surface prep is the KEY!
