Now that the Collin County Gun Range and Backwoods Traps have closed their doors, I don't have a good place to shoot outdoors:cuss:

I'm a very responsible 35 year old Engineer and father of two young girls who lives in Prosper. I shoot pistols, rifles and shotguns for sport. I typically like to shoot 1-2 days a week but need a place to practice. If you have land in the Prosper, McKinney, Celina, Frisco, Aubry area, I would be willing to pay for the opportunity to shoot on your land. I'm a very "Safty Concious" sportsman and I will respect your property.

I would be willing to pay a flat yearly fee up front or a monthly fee if you prefer.

Feel Free to give me (Johnny) a call at (972) 998-9292. I'd be happy to meet with you in person or speak on the phone before you make your decision.

When did C.C. Gun Range close? I liked that place.

I know this might not be what you're asking for but...

Quail Creek is about 20-30 minutes from Denton, and Lewisville respectively. It's not a bad range, fee's about 11 bucks. Decent Place, people weren't jerks. Can't shoot FMJ's there though, but thats the norm these days.

I feel your pain about how dry this area is for Ranges... and stores for that matter.

I'm not sure exactly when CCGR closed it's doors but it was pretty recent.

Quail Creek looks pretty interesting but is quite a drive from Prosper. I'm trying to find a place where I can shoot often (mostly hand guns).

I'm considering joining Dallas Pistol Club http://www.dallaspistolclub.com It seems to have everything I need for Pistol practice. They allow you to do all of the things that you can't usually do at public ranges (draw from holster, shoot multiple targets, rapid fire etc...).

Thanks for the info...

Having the same issue, I went to Quail Creek last weekend. It is about 30 minutes over there, and though the range and people are nice, it is not very big, and on a weekend, you will probably have to wait for a bench. There is a range (I have heard of) in Sanger called Magnum, but I can't find it. Otherwise, there are some ranges around Greenville, but that too is a long drive. Back Woods and Collin County were 2 nice, roomy ranges, about 22 miles from ech other. There is a real need for a good range up north of Dallas/Plano!

I live in Little Elm myself. I have vowed to just not go back to Gibsons since the people that run that place seem to act like their customers are a nuisance.

I would love to find a good place to shoot up in this area.

Does anyone know anything about the Texas Pistol Academy up in Whiteright? http://www.texaspistol.com/ I spoke to them yesterday and it sounds like they have a pretty nice facility. The problem is that it's a private facility and is pretty expensive to become a member. They require that you take their Basic Pistol class ($600) first and then you can buy a yearly membership for $600 (discounted to $300 through this weekend). That means that I will need to sink $1200 (or $900 with the discount) just to become a member.

On the flip side, they offer a lot of stuff that you can't get at public ranges like a Reactive Steel range, a Shooting House, 4 story shooting tower etc... This facility sounds very interesting but I don't think I can justify $1k just to get started.

This may be a little far for you.
VERY nice range.

Only $70 a year (with an additional new member's fee).

Dallas Action Pistol Shooters (DAPS) holds IDPA and USPSA matches at Elm Fork Shooting Park in Dallas. For information and our match schedule visit our web site, www.dallaspistol.com (http://www.dallaspistol.com)

Elm Fork also has a rifle range and public pistol bays. The other side of the park caters to shotgun sports. It's a shame about CCGR, but we'd love to have y'all come shoot with us.
