My wife has a Taurus 627SS4 that is extremely nice. The trigger is awesome, and it's very nicely proportioned for smaller hands.
I think that newer Taurii revolvers are good, in fact with the various problems I've been hearing about S&W.. I'd almost go out on a limb and say they are as good as S&W and Ruger... ;-)
The one we got is, perhaps we were lucky.

I'm a big fan of Taurus--I think that they make a good product that is reasonably priced...most of their worksmanship is great, although I'm not sure that it's equal to Ruger or S&W. For the price, they can't be beaten.
Which models are you considering?

I own a 4" Taurus Tracker in .45 ACP and highly recommend it. If mine is typical of current Taurus quality then they have a very good product line, but there have been enough negative posts about Taurus quality, esp. service, that an across-the board endorsement is not warranted. I get the impression that the all steel Tauri are the best. Still not a Smith nor a Ruger, but getting there.

I bought my wife a model 85 titanium in 38 special that has been great so far. The grips fit her well and the gun is very accurate so far. She is learning to shoot it well. Trigger is good and the fixed sights have been very good with 3 different loads I've tried. I'm impressed as this is the first Taurus product I've purchased.

I bought a mint Taurus 66, 6" blue at a gun show several years ago for $160. It's SA trigger is as good as my 4" Model 19-3 and the DA trigger is almost as good, just a touch of roughness.

I have 2 Trackers; 1 is a 357 with a 6.5 in barrel and 2 is a 45LC with a 4" barrel.
I love the guns but I have a 586 4" that shoots even with the 6.5 so the 357 sits in the safe, where the 45 is a great gun and I use it for whitetail here in PA. it carries real nice for a woods gun and is accurate enough sitting to do the job.
Selling the 357 6.5 need either a S&W 651 or an AR.

I own two Taurus Model 65 revolvers, and I really like them. The trigger pull is very nice, and fit & finish are good. The guns shoot well, and are especially enjoyable with .38 Special ammo. I would not choose them over my Ruger or S&W but I do shoot them often.

I own a few of their revolvers and have been pleased with them. Functionable and attractive. No experience with the semi-autos tho.

I just bought the newly redesigned M605 and am very pleased with it. I had one of the older models that lost the cylinder locking pin the very first time I shot it. It got sent back to Taurus and eventually sold. This gun is different. Taurus has eliminated the pin in favor of a spring loaded round bar that secures the crane by mating to a corresponding slot machined in the frame. The lock up and timing are superb and the fit and finish are excellent!! The bluing is a deep blue, almost black. Beautiful gun!! :D
I don't know if it is because of a lack of different bullet weights in Brazil, but the fixed sights are regulated for the 158gr bullet, which is ok by me!!!
The recoil is a bit stiff with magnum loads, but manageable. The revolver has a longer grip than it's .38spl little brother and it is done so for a reason, as I found out the first time I shot it!! :what: The webbing of my shooting hand, where the hammer tagged me has finally healed!!!
All in all, it's a decent revolver, and at half the cost of the Squirrelly and Weasel product :barf: , it is indeed a modern bargain!!!

Overall, it'd seem that Taurus has upped quality control in last decade or more ... certainly better than, say, thirty years ago.
I have a Model 66 ....... and like it but ...... have a suspicion the timing may be a tad out in two positions (get the odd tumbler) .... it's a seven shot cyl. Too lazy so far to send it off for inspection ..... it's not a carry gun anyways. Finish is good and trigger is very ''S&W''
I also use a M85 snubby .... gets used for summer carry .. great lil piece ... does all I want...... even if only 38 spl.

When people do complain about Tauruses, it seems to involve the TI guns more often than not. But I don't have hard stats to that effect. The complaints aren't all that common and don't seem to be significantly more common than complaints about other major brands.
I would run through the "checkout procedure" on ANY Taurus - or S&W or Ruger for that matter, new or used. See also the first post, this forum.

I've looked at a few Taurus revolvers over the years. One little .38 special had an amazing trigger, both single and double action, but most have mediocre triggers, and some have been poorly finished. From what I've seen in the shooting forums, quality issues are abundant.

I have a 415 that is smooth as silk. They work and don't seem to cause the problems of earlier ones. Very good for the money.

The last Taurus I owned, a 731UL in .32 Mag, was an absolute gem, with a fantastic DA pull right out of the box.

I bought my grandparents a .38 spl model 850CIA(?) DAO with matte finish. i only shot about 50 rounds through it but I really liked it. The trigger was nice, it just needed a little breaking in.

This is basically just my answer to my poll/question on another thread but it fits here too so:
My first gun was a Taurus 82 (blued 4" .38spl, "clone" of the S&W M10). It was bought used, it had been a security guard gun that was nearly 10 years old. I didn't totally like it (I really wanted a .357 and I was kicking myself for buying a .38 to save money) but it was 100% reliable. Accuracy was so-so but part of that was I was a new shooter (my accuracy was so-so) and part of it is that I have trouble picking up the sights on a blued fixed sight revolver (on a run of the mill gun, like a new or used Taurus 82, or new S&W M10, I would now go ahead and paint the front sight so I could see it better). I sold it when I bought my K-frame .357mag and at the time I thought I wouldn't own more than 3 or 4 guns (so at the time I basically saw them as overlapping niches so I got rid of the .38) .
I owned a Taurus 605 snub for a while. It was reliable, had a great trigger pull, was acceptably accurate (it was a 2" small framed snub) and I did like it. However, I decided that as much as I like .357mag in larger guns (incl. 2-3" K-frames) it is too much for a small, J-framed sized, snub. Since I figured on only using .38s in it for social situations, and usually at the range too, I didn't like the cost of 3 extra oz. of weight for a small hideout type gun. So I sold it.
I am happy enough with my experience with Taurus revolvers that I recently bought an 85CH on the internet that should be in my hands in a couple weeks. I also have several Taurus revolvers on "the list" (a replacement 82, a 445, a Tracker in .357, possibly a Tracker in .45acp). In addition to the "must haves" I look at Taurus alongside S&W and Ruger whenever I consider a revolver purchase (though I do lean towards used S&Ws simply because I really love the slightly older S&Ws- more class than any new gun could ever have). When I look specifically at new guns Taurus has the edge in my book (good reliability and quality, good durability, and less money than the competition=high value).

I've been happy with my 85Ti. Very innovative adapation of the Chief's special design. Looking at recent Taurus revolvers, it seems like their quality is equal to current production S&W, though their finishes are not.
Mine did require a set of Wolff reduced power springs to make the trigger managible, but so did my M-60.

Greeting's All-
I think the overall quality of the Taurus revolver
line has improved greatly. My friend Perfessr owns all
kind's of Taurus revolver's; and from his reports I do
not see anything wrong with their current production.
They certainly have made great strides in overcoming
their reputation based on the older model revolver's.
One that draws my attention, is the current production
model 605 in .357 magnum. I know several folks that
own these; and they often times brag about what a
great shooter they are! I eventually may have to break
down and test drive one myself?:uhoh:  :)
Best Wishes,
