i finally found the urge to be too much...had to break down and buy a 1911. chose this springfield 5". it is a beauty (especially the $450 price tag). it was marked down because of a small "scratch" on the slide that i personally think will come out if i oil her up good. i put about 100 rounds or so thru her today (as soon as i got home) and i love it! ended up only costing me $30 after i traded in my remington 270, so that leaves me plenty of money for ammo (my gf bought me my first 200 rounds). i dont much care for the sights that are on it tho, any good suggestions? other then the sights, the fact it didnt come w/ an owners manual, and i found out it was assembled in Brazil and not the U.S. i could not be happier w/ this weapon. i am very happy to join the 1911 family, and on my 19th birthday no less.

hmmm....cant get my pic to show up...oh well.

They're good guns and work well. Take a look at what Ted Yost does with those "Brazilian" 1911s in 1* custom form; www.yost-bonitz.com

Congrats on the 1911, and on the birthday. My birthday was yesterday and I also have a 1911 on the way for pretty much the same reason. Springfield Armory Loaded model in stainless steel (this gun (http://www.springfield-armory.com/images/pistols/PX9151LLarge.jpg)). This will be my first 1911, but I seriously doubt it will be the last.

I think the forgings are just made in Brazil. I don't think the 1911s are completed in Brazil.

finally figured out the picture thing...sorry its so big lol. anyway, i dont think that the lil scratches on it are a real big deal so ill take the $100 off or w/e. anyway, its a real nice gun for what i paid for it.

Wait.. what ? I know this thread is a little old now.. but I happned to notice something that noone seemed to point out.

Quoted from the original poster..

My question is .. it's legal to buy a handgun at 19 in Nebraska ? .. I don't think it is. And I remember another of your recent posts about a stolen handgun... So who is selling you these handguns at 19 y/o ?

It's legal in almost every state to buy and possess handguns at 18. You just can't buy them from an FFL. Has to be a private transaction.

Entirely legit and legal. There is not a single federal law saying someone between the ages of 18 and 21 cannot legally own/operate/purchase a handgun; the 21 thing comes from FFLs. The problem is trying to find someone who will sell/give someone under 21 said handgun, especially if they don't know the laws as well :banghead:
