Measuring single action trigger pull

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this, but let me try. I have a Redhawk .44 Magnum and would like to measure the single action trigger pull. It isn't bad, at least to my finger, but I would just be interested in knowing what it is. I have a fish scale, but the hook on it is way too short and not the correct shape to get a grip on the trigger and pull without hitting the trigger guard. Any ideas?

I don't think a fish scale is really accurate enough, but if it is, you should be able to make a new hook out of some stiff wire, like a heavy coat hanger. Since you are going to be pulling horizontally rather than taking the weight downward, the weight of the hook won't matter.

Is there any other way of measuring it short of taking it to a gunsmith?

Sure, you could buy a trigger pull guage. They come in at various prices from different sources such as Midway or Graffs.

If you plan on using it more than once or twice, it would probably pay to buy one.

"...way too short..." Make an extension from a a length of 1/8th rod. A loop on one end to fit the hook on the scale and a 'finger' on the other, long enough to keep the scale away from the frame but that'll reach the trigger. You could try a fairly heavy wire coat hanger too.
