Different makes, models, etc?

Handgun, rifle, shotgun, and combos?

I'm not sure that I'd be able to put a total list together, but I know that it is WELL into the 3 figures range.

Thinking about this even more, I'd have to say that I'm actually into 3 figures just in handguns!

Bit like Mike really .... and at my age too - way too many to remember all ..... probably approaching three figures I'd bet.

So far, JROB, you are the only one that hasn't passed 20! Better get busy!! :D

If I remember the recent poll correctly, most people on this board OWNED more than that many guns.

Heck, just the ones I've owned personally maxed out the poll. Then add all the others of the "Hey wanna take a shot with mine?" type over a fifty year period, it's going to be like Mike said - 3 digits easily. One memorable one was when I shot SodaPop's shotgun by mistake, we both had the same model and I picked up his.

Do you want us to add a "More than 100" category?

Several hundred. Give or take. Hard to say.

Heck, just about every time I go shooting I manage to wrangle a couple shots out of somebody else's gun. :)

Hkmp5sd
May 15, 2003, 06:22 PM
I own more than 4x the poll's max number. :) I'd have to guess total variations fired to be several hundred. It would be a whole lot more if not for the '68, '86, '89 and '94 gun bans!!

ACP230
May 15, 2003, 06:31 PM
The last time I sat down and figured this out the total was 60+. That was 15 or 20 years ago. Its probably over 200 by now.

G23Jake
May 15, 2003, 06:40 PM
Probably between 75-100 it was fun to think about here are some of the cooler ones:
M16A1 & A2 (A1 much more fun)
M203 (grenade launcher attached to m16)
M60
SAW (like the m60 but smaller firing .223) VERY COOL!
AT4 (Shoulder fired rocket launcher)
AT4 Converted to 9mm for practice
.50 CAL
MP5
G23
G23 converted to 9mm

The military is where I suggest you go if you want to shoot these cool toys! No I am not a recruiter.

SRYnidan
May 15, 2003, 07:19 PM
Probably several hundred. My dad was a gunsmith and I am a compeditive shooter with seven years of military service in Europe behind me so I have had a while to work on it.

Darrin
May 15, 2003, 07:37 PM
Less than 100. (I think) Just between Dad and I is about 25 guns currently. Doesn't count my brother's, nor any of the misc guns over the years. In the Boy Scouts alone I think I shot at least 20 different single-shot .22lrs!

Like Correia, I seem to manage to shoot someone else's gun everytime I go to the range. Likewise, someone will shoot one of mine. It's amazing how friendly gun owners are, eh?

Andrew Wyatt
May 15, 2003, 07:38 PM

springfields
AI AW
1911's of various sorts
calico 9mm SMG

Way more than 500, probably 1000 at least.

I worked for a gunsmith for 15 years and shot a lot of competition back in the 70's and 80's. It certainly wasn't unusual for me to shoot 10 different guns each week back in the late 70's to late 80's doing testing, sighting in, function testing etc.

Having run an indoor range for about seven years and cleared/test fired/demo'd pretty much every handgun under the sun... I'm sure I'm well into the triple digits.

I mean damn, with my own guns we're into the low 50's...

In over 30 yrs of shooting, I'd guess a minimum of 200, possibly 300 or more.

Strange phenomenon in the last 5 to 10 yrs though. I've found myself declining to shoot other peoples guns more and more unless it's something way cool or I've never shot before. Prefering instead to hoard the precious range time to become more intimate with my own guns and break through some barriers to become better or really good.

I also notice I'm spending more and more time with revolvers lately, whats up with that?:uhoh: :scrutiny:

I know! I wish I couldn't remember all of them, but growing up with anti-gun parents in a liberal setting made it difficult to pursue my gun hobby until I was out of the house and in college, then the problem was being incredibly poor. So, I've really only gotten to shoot and buy guns in the last couple years.

I don't have many shooting buddies either, (not many pro-gunners around here) so the guns I've listed have mailnly all been owned by myself or one of 2 friends.

I always wanted to shoot a REAL gun
but the gunners mates kept hogging the controls for the 5" gun. I only got to play with the 50 and 30 cal smallbore stuff.

As a dream job try working in a gun store while in high school. I volentiered to clean and function fire all of the used guns they got in on trade. They would have 30 - 60 used guns in at any point in time.

For some of us that have been around awhile there should be a catagory of >250 and > 500.

Southern California shooters should definitely check out the Hands-On Shooting Sports Fair at Mike Raahauge's in Norco on June 4, 5, & 6.

Lots of vendors have booths where for a couple bucks you can shoot any number of different makes and models.

Last year was the one time I have had the opportunity to shoot the Smith 50 caliber magnum revolver. BOOM!

I shot/owned several .22s and shotguns when I was a kid, joined the army at 18 in 1969, used M14, M16,M79,M60,1911A1 in training, went to Vietnam, all those mentioned plus M3A1, M2, Mod 37 Ithaca, Sks, AK47, PPSh, AK54, Tok 33, then pretty well left them alone until about ten years ago. Had a few family shotguns around, but raising a family and buying a home was not conducive to spending $ on guns. Well the kids are gone, house paid for, wife has own business & doing well, and at last count I had 42 hanging on the toy room. I shoot them all regularly. Reload for them too.

It is safe to say that this thread needs to start over.

I would make 20 guns the minimum selection, and "more than a hundred" the high end. There are those of us who have owned close to a hundred guns in our lifetime....and fired many more that we didn't own.

I'm sure we have several members who have fired more than twenty crew served weapons!

a toy gun that shot little discs

Only counting firearms... and in order :p *denotes ownership

Winchester 1894
Remington 870
Ithaca 12ga SxS
M1-A
Marlin 60*
AR-15
Magnum Research Lone Eagle .308
SAR-1*
Mosin-Nagant M44*
CZ-52

And I own (but have never fired) two shotguns--a Winchester 1911SL and a Mossberg 590 "Special Purpose."

Now in my dreams... that's WAY too long to type.:D

This poll should definitely have higher numbers for choices.

Heck I had about 20 different firearms with me at the last PA shoot. There are probably close to 100 within 20' feet of me right now. There are a couple hundred between my brother and father at their house, and my sister has at least 10 herself, at her house. Counting friends, extended family .........

I guess the answer is A LOT!
