I hope this is not way off topic but does any body know where to get good self defense training, maybe a little more on the aggressive side or mixed martail arts in in Washinton state around the Tacoma area?

Sorry mods if not non-firearms related.

There actually is a good school or two in the area. I'll see if I can get a WA local to post.

Golly, I miss WA!

Visit Winjutsu.com and check out any schools in your area. No matter where you are coming from or your backgrouns you wont be disappointed with taijutsu training. I'ts worth checking out as you shop around. You could also google "taijutsu" and your area, cities, towns, even state. Good luck!

In general, I agree, but in the specifics, I must heartily disagree.

There are excellent teachers and subpar ones in this, as well...

(I *did* receive some excellent- and usually one-on-one- training from a couple of teachers in the Bujinkan while I was in the Tacoma area, but they were military as well, and are probably no longer at Fort Lewis.)

Hey guys thanks for your help, all I have found so far is aerobic kickboxing or tie qwon doe ( I think I spelled that right) but nothing really physical that could actually be used in self defense or in an actuall fight, I used to be in Brazillian Jujitsu back home and some MMA but I am still looking thanks for your help.

Be sure to learn lethal striking techniques, as they are invaluable in unarmed combat.

Marcelo Alonso has a BJJ school in Puyallup. He is a 3 strip BB under Carlson Gracie (well until Carlson passed), as well as a BB in Judo.

A quick google-fu shows a Muay Thai place in Tacoma also. No idea of the quality, but the best thing to do, would be to pop in and take a look.

BDL-

(Do you have an innocuous explanation for your user name, btw?) I'm trying to get a local to post in-thread.

I don't know if there is any one who teaches that in your area, but Kempo is a good mixed art that teaches both offensive and defensive tactics. Good mix of kicking, striking, weapons, and holds.

I agree with dogbonz regarding Kenpo. I took it for 5 years and don't regret it a moment. Some of the most fun was when our sensei had us wear street cloths and then try and go through full contact drills.
