I have a Marlin 30AS which if I am not mistaken is basically an economy version of the 336. I want to put a synthetic stock on the 30AS but I can only find stocks that fit for the 336.... Are they the same stock? I'm hoping it is so that I can order a stock for the 336 and be done with it.

For anyone interested, I just called Marlin and found that the buttstock are compatable with each other, but not the forend.
The forend of a 30AS has a cap and the forend of the 336 has a band......

Compare the foreend of the 30A with a standard 336C or 336W
forend: could the synthetic foreend be inletted to fit the nosecap?

Edited fer spelling; and to add: it has been a while since I saw a 30A.

I believe the 30AS/30AW stock is stained hardwood, and the 336 stock is geniune Walnut. One way to tell on newer Marlins is if there is a black and white "target" on the buttstock just above the rear sling swivel, it is Walnut.

The current hardwood stocked discount-store variety of the
Marlin 336 is listed as the 336A and 336W. It has been about
two decades since I saw the hardwood stocked Model 30.
Where are you finding them?

I copied these photos from some estate auctions. The 30A is
the ancestor of the current 336A.
