Your Next Gun

You know you want it.
You've had your eye on it for a while now. You've been asking around about it - friends, shooting partners, gun store employees. You've been reading about it, researching it, comparing it to similar guns. You've almost decided to get it . . .
What will YOUR next gun be?

Second, I haven't decided, yet. So many guns...

.22 handgun, dont know if it will be a revolver or a semiauto, and I have no idea what model yet (as MD's handgun lock law limit my choices).

It's either going to be this .30-06 J.C. Higgins I've had my eye on, or some kind of ultra-light snubbie in .32 H&R magnum.

Damn! It's a hard list to prioritize!
Next I think will be Kel-Tec P32 .... been thinkin about that for ages.... then I hope to pick up a bolt .223 ..... something more accurate than the Mini!! Then ................................. :p
Kharn - I recently got a Single Six stainless for .22lr .. comes with .22 mag cyl ..... very satisfied with that .... worthy of your consideration methinks.

Most likely gonna be a Springfield SS Loaded. A 4' Springfield XD 9mm is a possibility too, depending on finances. I've had my eye on a NAA 22mag mini revolver too just for the fun factor.
Final answer: Whatever I can get a good deal on at the next gun show.

P95:
The problem is MD's lock law, any gun made after 1/1/03 has to have an integral lock. I've got my eye on a few models that I could buy used, but I'll have to talk to the local dealers to see if they have any of them. Ruger 22/45, Ruger MkII, Browning Buckmark all with 5.5" barrels are the main semiautos, Taurus M94 is the main revolver I'm looking at (but I might consider their new .22 fullsize pistol if it comes out soon).

Skunk, you should consider a move to DFW!:D
Anyway, my next gun will be either a DSA FAL or an AR10A4-T. Before someone starts trying to tell me which is better, I'm getting them both, so save your breath. :D When I win the lottery  I'm going to send the AR10 to Stuart Wilson of www.shooterready.com and make a match rifle out of it. The DSA will be my battle rifle. I'll need an M1A or two to round out my selection of .308 rifles.
I'm also in the market for one of those Olyarms .223 Plinkers to test out as a truck gun.
Oh yeah, and a Kimber Stainless II.
pytron
May 15, 2003, 08:10 PM
Probably a Ruger P95 for a house gun and cheaper ammo than my .45
Then maybe a P-32 for always pocket carry. I'm waiting to see on the P-3AT. Maybe their release will cause a flood of used P-32s :D
Finally, a 22 revolver, semi-auto, and rifle for a complete "beginner's set".
After that I might get some long guns so I don't have to borrow one every time I go hunting ;)

I want a Browning Hi-Power in .40S&W, or no....how about CZ-75 in .40S&W, but maybe the Ruger Bisley Single Six, then again there is the S&W M24 with a 5" barrel, I gotta have a Colt Diamondback in a 6" .22lr, but sure would like the Ruger 77/22 in .22 Hornet. I can't make up my mind, here lately I have looked at the SA XD in .40 or .357sig and I don't even like polymer guns.

Since I ran acros that Hungarian M44 a couple of weeks ago, I'm nearly content. Notice the use of the word 'nearly'. Strong possibilities for the next firearm could be a Walther P22 or a Browning Buckmark. Longarms- the next 'planned' acquisition is to be a FAL, probably a parts kit as I'm of the John Muir frame of mind; 'Come to kindly terms with your (small donkey) for it bears you' from "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive: A Manual of Step-by-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot ". Putting something together (mostly) by onesself is an excellent means to understanding it.
...unless something that strikes my fancy croses my path first, then all bets are off.
Regards,
Rabbit.

My next 'not cheap' gun will more than likely be a Springfield Compact.
I also want to get either a Tikka (preferably) or a CZ550 (a very nice second choice) in 6.5x55 and something like the Elite 1.5-6x36 scope.
Others in the hopefully not-too-distant future include a lighter weight 44 magnum lever gun, a Dan Wesson 41 Magnum and one of the new Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunters with the Bisley grip. I'd love it if they would come out with one in 41 Magnum... I heard they did a limited run of the regular gripped Hunters in 41 Magnum that might fill both slots but I really want that Bisley grip.

Can't say for sure on my next one, but I do have a wish list that I try to fill in order of opportunity.
Another Finn M-39.
A CZ-83.
Possibly the S&W M-28 I have been eyeing up.
A Marlin Papoose.
A .22 auto pistol.
Maybe a CZ RAMI when they become available.
Maybe a P-32.
But I still need to get some more ammo and mags for my other guns, and do a little custom work on my 1911.

I want a Mossberg 500 with 18.5" barrel, 8+1 shot and folding stock (over top, not side) with pistol grip. Oh, it will be in the mariner finish.
First of all, why the Mossberg 500? Price and comfort. They fit my small frame nicely. A new black one is $259 up the road, the mariner is ~$300 used on Gunbroker.com.
This is going to serve as HD and range toy. Some posts over in 'shotguns' have me tempted to get 2; one for HD, one for 'playing.' Can't afford two right now so the one will do. (Perhaps later....)
The second 'next' gun will be either A) Replacing my Astra with a P99, or B) a .223 ~ .308 rifle, or C) a 10/22. We'll see after the Mossberg is in my hands. :D

hmmm....tough question.
1) local pawn shop has a S&W 5-screw, 2" bbl, nickel plated for $289
2) possibly a 10/22, so what if I already have 3 .22 rifles
3) Ruger PC-9 Carbine, truck gun that'll use same mags as my P-89DC
4) or I may sacrifice and buy a P32 for the significant other

Stainless Ruger Vaquero .44 in 4 & 5/8th" barrel. I need it to complete my CAS rig.

The list of wants is long, but looking at the needs it's either an EAA IZH-27 12 ga stackbarrel or a Marlin 1895 in 45-70. Which do I need to do worse, whack birds in flight, or provide insurance against large furry brown creatures that like to chew on my window sill?

I honestly don't know.
As for handguns, I'm considering a Glock 20 or a 6" Hämmerli X-esse (= SIG Trailside). A CZ75 Sport II or the new 6" SIG 210 Longslide would be nice for competition, but are too expensive.
With regards to longguns, I don't have a precision rifle yet, so a Steyr Scout would be nice. A G3-based self-loading rifle is also a must (it's still the best) and a Winchester 94 Ranger Compact in .357Mag could fill the role of a dedicated HD carbine.
Which will the next one? Probably the Hämmerli, for cheap plinking and training beginners.
