I am taking the Gunsite, Basic Defensive Pistol (250) in July and have pretty much decided to shoot my Glock 17. I purchased this gun a couple years ago, and I think I took it out once or twice but the whole Glock thing is growing on me.
So, I need to get a holster and mag carriers for the course. And, I need recomendations.
Will a holster for a Glock 17, also fit a Glock 26 ?

Yes. Check out SIDEARMOR® - the definition of Kydex holsters: (http://sidearmor.net/)

Ok, thanks for the reply. Can you give me some of your thoughts on these holsters ? What makes them better than Bladetech or for that matter Fobus. I have always been the kind of guy that bought one holster and used it faithfully. I never put a whole lot of research into the subject. I would like to make an informed decision on this one.

I like Sidearmors because they're fast and secure. I especially like the IWB, which has a raised inner side that makes reholstering very easy. That's what I used in a three-day pistol course with my 26. I use the OWB for my 17 for IPSC and occasionally for carry.

As far as interchangeability, well, I was sitting here with a 17 and a 26 both in Sidearmor holsters, so I gave it a try. The holster for the 17 is OWB, the one for the 26 is IWB.

A 26 will sort of fit in the Sidearmor OWB for a 17, but it doesn't seem to snap in with the same authority. The 17 doesn't fit the small 26 IWB very well. I'm not likely to carry the 17 IWB or the 26 OWB, so the two holsters I have work fine for me.

Conclusion: If you have both a 17 and a 26, get separate holsters for each. They're not expensive, and they last forever. You also want both guns in holsters all the time, even if they're also in your range bag, which takes two holsters.

Ok, sounds good. I am surprised that with the popularity of the Glock pistols, I couldn't get more of a response, but at this point I will probably take your advice. I will give it a day or two.

Thanks for the input.

Are you planning on carrying the G17 or just using it for the course? You might want to look at one of the Glock brand sport holsters. They are open bottom and one holster can be used for many different Glock models.

glockmeister.com carries them as do many other venders.

PM Tonerguy, he'll fix you up with a Tucker. My G19 is riding happily in one right now:D

For a Glock 17, you've got LOTS of choices in holsters. The first thing you have to decide is, IWB or OWB? Then decide, Kydex or leather? From there, you can more easily narrow it down.

If you want a good leather holster, try HighNoon, DeSantis, or Milt Sparks. I own and like all of those.

For Kydex, all of the ones I've tried seem good, but I especially like Cen-Dex, SafariLand, Ky-Tac and Fobus (for a cheap and relialbe bargain holster, they can't be beat! I find myself using my Fobus paddle holster more often than the other, more prestigious brand names.)

I'm sure there are lots more holsters that are great out there, but those are some of the ones with which I'm personally familiar.

Hope that helps,

I have two types of holsters for the G17. Dillon's Master is very nice. The one I use most is the Glock Sport/Combat holster. I bought a spare but the first one is proving to be indestructible...

I'll 2nd the recomendation on the Sidearmor OWB. I've found the model for the full-sized Glock(17) gives adequate retention for both the compact(19) or subcompact(26) Glocks also. It's just longer then necessary for the shorter Glocks. The Kydex holster is very slick inside and quick to draw from. Retention is positive as it grabs the trigger guard from the side. Sidearmor quality is first class also.

I haven't used Sidearmor's magazine holders but have heard good things about them. I do like the Kytac mag holder. You might want to check them out. I've heard good things about Dave Elderton's Kytac holsters also.

I've used Fobus through Thunder Ranch, Chapman Academy and Lethal Force Institute courses. Cheap, reliable, comfortable, and if it gets damaged or scratched up, you're out only about 20 bucks... what's not to like?

Interesting, I didn't expect anyone to recommend a Fobus. I own a couple Fobus holsters. Because they were cheap, I bought a few of them for a few handguns that I never really intended to carry, but wanted a holster for the range. I never had a problem with any of them, actually now that I think about it, I used one for awhile in IDPA and IPSC. I really have no complaint about them.

It seems like the most popular holster so far is the Sidearmor. I have never seen one, but if they are this popular, there must be something to it.

SideArmor makes a great product. Give them a hard look www.sidearmor.net They're also great people that stand 100% behind their products.

Comp-Tac also makes great holster but I don't like them as much as the SideArmor for the 17.

If you're looking at leather don't forget Lou Alessi. He makes first rate leather and he also stands behind everything that leaves his shop.

The Glock belt slide also works very well. You might want to get one sized for the G21/20 especially if you like to wear a holster with the belt very tight. The G17 size fits but if you tend to tighten the belt it will make it hard to reholster with one hand.

I like Fobus holsters too but I haven't mastered the right pull to prevent binding 100% of the time.

Have tried most of the "name" Kydex holsters and
find Cen-Dex {as recomended by Chuck Taylor} to be the
best of the bunch.
Use their "Storm" or "SD" for IDPA, etc. and their
"Taylor Nighthawk" for CCW.

KyTac would be my 2nd. choice.
