I need a price check on a Noranco AK-47, Pre-ban, under folder in .223 In very nice condition. The local gun store has just got one in and it is priced at $995.00 (it just came in and it isn‘t out on the shelf yet. They are giving me first shot at it.) Just wondering if this was a good price for one. Thanks

This is an 84s I presume? That's a bit high - you should be able to find one around $900 without much of a problem, fixed stock around $800. Less if you look around harder or get a bit lucky. These were among the least desireable of the preban AK's for quite some time, due to the higher cost of mags ($25-35) and the somewhat proprietary design - this was a firearm designed for the commercial market, there is no "standard" as with the 5.45 or 7.62 guns. However, there seemed to be a bit of a run on them with the advent of the cheap 5.45 krinkov kits - the 84s was/is probably the best platform to build one upon. As such, the price went up. A few years ago, a fixed stock model under $600 was not uncommon, while the 7.62 guns were going for several hundred more. I got one for $500 about a year and a half ago, but sorta lucked into that one.

That Underfolder is worth everybit of the $1000 asking price. In excellent conditon or better they go closer to $1300 and up. Its a steal at that price. The 223 magazines are fairly easy to come by the SAR2 (223) works fine and CDNN (?) has been selling original Norinco mags for $15, and they re-appear every few months. Workmanship is excellent (compares well with my Valmet) and it should have the 386 in a circle stamp, meaning it was really made by Polytech rather than Norinco (as marked)which is a big plus. Even through it's a pre-ban you can still get a replacement underfolder stock assembly for it fairly easy for about $35. Their aren't that many around so their is a limited demand for for the fairly abundant pre-ban spare parts market.
