I just bought my first handgun.. czp01.. I havent shot it yet though.. i just bought it like three hours ago.. Im excited to shoot it.. The feeling of the gun is spectacular and the weight is great too. No disrespect to glock but it just didnt feel the same as a cz...Well here are the noob questions.. the lock.. i slid it through the chamber and then to the ending point of the barrel and locked it.. is that correct? Then the firing pin? i know its not called that wait the hammer? the hammer is stays locked back unless you pull the trigger and hold the hammer to push it all the way in. Im not familiar with this mechanism.. is there anyway to make the hammer go all the way in but safer? or is that a safety... i noticed that it was halfway cocked back and it acted as a double action mechanism...is that the safety? Once again im a noob and i shall be shooting with an experienced shooter.. I want to say thanks to everyone that gave me tips and advice and answered all my questions! thanks fellas... one more thing sportsmans warehouse in tucson,az were great.. awesome service!

Greetings!
Nothing wrong with being a noob, so long as you know your noobness.
It came with a cable lock? Usually you pass that lock up through the empty magazine well, out through the ejection port, and then lock. Not sure it's the best idea to put it through the barrel unless that's what the manual says.
Which brings me to my next point: read the manual! Nothing against you, but it's clear that this is pretty new to you. Go over the manual with the gun in front of you until you figure out the names of the parts, and what each part does.
That said, CZs rock, you've chosen well. Make sure that you go with an experienced shooter, or take a good shooting class. Far better than having to learn things the hard way.
Oh, and did I mention, read the manual? (grin)
Enjoy your pistol, -MV

You made a great choice. I have the big brother to your pistol, the SP01.
As far as the half cock thing, the P01 has a decocker. When you press it, the hammer is dropped to half cock and the trigger resets to a long pull. The gun does not have a manual safety in that sense because it is always ready to fire. There really isn't away to get around this. I wish they made the P01 in a manual safety version but it was designed for Czech police requirements, hence the decocker.

Great choice in a handgun. Be sure and clean and lube it throughly before you take it out shooting. They are accurate and dependable and you will grow to love it.:)

STOP RIGHT THERE. The owners manuel will tell you to use the magazine base to push out the slide stop pin from the right side of the slide. DON'T DO IT. It will scratch the slide. Use the base of a Bic lighter, or any hard plastic to push the pin out.
I use S&B, WWB, or cheap Remington 115gr FMJ. So far it has been flawless.

Great gun. More accurate and less recoil than its big brother, the CZ 75B, in my hands, and I have both. I shoot S&B FMJ (from Natchez Shooters) and its been very good - a little hot but accurate. I've replaced the recoil spring with a Wolff Gunspring 22 lb spring and it works great with the S&B ammo. Enjoy.

I'm confused, did you field strip the gun to clean it? Or did you clean the barrel while the gun was fully assembled?
And as many have said before...read the manual. It has a nice diagram of all the parts all blown up, in addition to other very important things (especially for a new shooter) to know about the gun.

Good deal overall, but you have to read the manual to figure out what's going on. "Left the slide cocked back" doesn't make any sense; did you like the slide locked back? Why would you leave the slide locked back after cleaning?
I'm really glad that you got a great pistol and enjoy it, just am a little concerned that you're not quite understanding how it works.
Nothing personal, I just think that you'd be even happier/safer with your purchase if you read the manual a few times. Read it while munching your cornflakes, whatever. It's just a 10-minute read.
Cool gun though, I'm probably getting a PCR soon, which is very similar. Take care, -MV

Is this the manual (http://www.cz-usa.com/data/downloads/support_manuals/CZ_75.pdf) that comes with the p01? I will be getting this pistol soon and wanted to get a head start.

The P01 is a GREAT gun. It's ergonomic, accurate, and dead-bang reliable. Mine went 2400 rounds without being cleaned or lubed before I just gave up and cleaned it.
Don't forget the excellent .22LR upper for it, the CZ Kadet.

The manual that comes with the gun is the generic CZ 75 manual. Its not the best manual in the world, and assumes you know a little about pistols. I have two CZ 75's, including a P-01. They are terrific pistols.
You'll probably get more specific CZ information at two CZ forums, http://www.czshooters.com/forum/ and http://czusa.com/community_bbs_frameset.php
Have fun and be safe.
