These things look extremely entertaining. As I remember they were a semi-auto smoothbore design and had a submerged useful range in excess of 15 meters.

Nothing about the design seems to require a NFA registration, but I'm not sure I have seen any laws regarding aquatic firearms at all...

Were these ever imported? They seem like they could be a barrel of laughs when combined with the proper SCUBA gear and a spear-fishing license.

Has anyone ever seen one of these in the US?

A little background (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as69-e.htm) on them.

It is a fully automatic firearm and since it was special purpose I'd suspect there were very few made. I doubt the government has released them for export. I would love to have a round of that ammo though and to have a round of the silent cartridge ammo for another special purpose Russian pistol.

Caliber: 5.6x39 mm MPS
Action: Gas operated, rotating bolt
Overall length: 823 mm (butt retracted), 615 mm (butt collapsed)
Barrel length: n/a
Weight: 2.4 kg less magazine; 3.4 loaded
Rate of fire: 600 rounds per minute (in air)
Magazine capacity: 26 rounds
