FIRST TIME!!!! She is 11. I set up a sandstone rock for a target an the darn kid kept hitting it. So I set up a .38 special case....and....well.... da pitcher sorta speaks fer itself.

THIS kid is gonna get into a junior marksmanship program. I was stunned. Very focused and the gun did not fit her at all. But the reflexes and the trigger control are just perfect.

Now....what's a good junior TARGET grade rifle that is light? I do NOT want to put a heavy gun on her til she gets some more lead downrange.

Grampaw's happy!!!

Oh yeah, it was OFFHAND....standing.... no rest. AAARRRGH!!!!

Check out the CZ line of .22LR. In particular, the CZ 452 Scout. Its built for smaller shooters, and the CZ .22's are flat-out tack drivers...

Was she more that 3" away from the case?

Wasn't far. Just enough to make it hard to see. I would guess 20-25 feet.

She wanted me to drill it for a keychain and she's wearing it in the picture.

Looking at buying a .22 for grandchild use. There is a small single shot .22 new on the market for $180 that would be perfect for a 4 or 5 year old. The thing is about half the size of a normal .22

Kids are natural shooters. No preconcieved macho ideas. They have the vision and hand/eye coordination to do well. Start them on .22 so they don't learn to fear recoil and you can move them up gradually to bigger guns.

I think rifle marksmanship should be a mandatory class for kids in the 10-12 year old category. They are young enough to take instruction without the teen angst attitude and old enough to remember and follow safety rules. I'd even provide a new rifle and ammo for the program if I could get the school board to allow it.

I bet that was a fun day! The grin on her face was still showing it. It's funny how kids just seem to take to shooting.

I've got two grandchildren, a boy and a girl. I'm looking forward to that "first day" with them at the range. :D

Mark.
