Tell me about Taurus .25 tip-barrel pistol

Someone I know is interested in it for several good reasons. Can it be expected to be reliable or accurate (3" at 20ft or better)?

The answer is a definite "maybe". Most of them seem to work fine. The DA trigger pull is, however, horrific, and offers the same problems to the large of finger or long of fingernail that the Beretta Bobcat/Tomcat do...

I personally think the Beretta 950 (Jetfire) is a better .25 cal platform. Competetivly priced, lighter weight, same tip up barrel, very reliable and accurate to the specifications you list.
It is a single action though. But I think that's an advantage with such a small frame for the reasons Tamara cited. Thumb cocking the hammer is suprisingly fast and secure - and will likely result in a more accurate first shot considering the light/small frame and very short barrel/sight radius.

If this is the same gun as the Taurus PT-22 (I think it is) but in .25acp then I would say to stear clear.
I had the Taurus PT-22 and it had poor accuracy and was totaly unreliable. I sent it back to Taurus two times (cost me about $50) and several months later, it still didn't work. I sold it for half what I paid for it to a dealer and felt lucky to get that.
Taurus customer service was rude and not very helpfull. I swore I would never buy another Taurus product again and I have not even been tempted. I have seen some of there products that co-workers or friends bought and some looked decent but so did my PT-22. One guy bought a Taurus .357 that is a cheap knock-off of the S&W 586 (I think it is called a 587:rolleyes: ) and I didn't want to hurt his feelings but that thing was a POS! He paid the same I did for a real S&W 586.:neener:
That being said, the .25 is often more reliable than .22lr but I doubt it will be accurate. I would say, don't buy one! Buy a Beretta, at least then, it might work.

What Nick96 said... The frame/grips on the little DA guns are the same size as those used on a .32 Tomcat. The Jetfire, being SA, is appreciably smaller, and quite reasonably priced. (Used, they're rarely too much over a C-note...)

I'm sure the Taurus is fine, but it is DAO if that matters to you...it does to me. I prefer the Berettas and am lucky to have the discontinued M-20 which is a DA/SA that only takes .25 ACP so is the same size as the 950 (unlike the largish M-21). It is perfectly reliable and suprisingly accurate. I also have a Tomcat, but it is not as well put togethor as yhe old M-20.

The Beretta Jetfire has the best reputation (no personal experience here). I know why people might want or need a small tip-up firearm. I am curious why your friend has a specific interest in the Taurus.

I've noted the performance of my PT-22 here a number of times.
In over 2,000 rounds with Winchester Wildcat ammo, and spotty cleaning, I have had ZERO failures to feed, ZERO failures to fire, and ZERO failures to eject.
None. Zilch. Zip. Nada. Bupkis.
The only failures I had were with CCI Blazer ammo -- I got about 50 to 70% failures to fire on the first trigger pull, second trigger pull gave nearly 100% firing.
Solution?
Switch back to Winchester Wildcat.
Accuracy is what you'd expect from a small pistol with a fairly heavy trigger pull and fixed sights:
M.O.H. (Minute of Head) at 7 yards
M.O.C. (Minute of Chest) at 10 yards
I've no experience with the PT-25, but if it's anything like my PT-22, it ought to be a decent little pistol.
As long as you don't mind paying $10 or so per 50 rounds for ammo.

I strongly agree with those who favor the Beretta 950. My Taurus
PT-22 was an unmitigated disaster, making no less than 4 trips
back to the factory. On the fourth one it stayed there, and they
sent me an 85CH in exchange. Even if you did luck into a reliable
one, the oversize magazine release button makes it unsuitable
for pocket carry. My Jetfire on the other hand has been very
reliable and is a solid little piece of machinery.

Howdy
I have hands the size of paws, and thick bifocals. I am truely surprised and well pleased with the way the PT25 shoots. Acurate, reliable, and easy to shoot, even for me. Can keep all shots on a 9" paper plate at 25 yards easily. Like the fact it has a large total capacity. If this is what is ment by "mouse gun"
Pass the cheese, cause I'm impressed.....

I own a Taurus PT-22, so I'll stick in my two cents.
Accuracy: All in the head at 25". Easily. I'm not a great shot, either.
Trigger:The double action trigger is loooooong. A friend of mine's wife tried mine out and much preferred a single action gun.
I won't comment on reliability since I own a .22 instead of a .25.
