Dear Friends-

I have written in many of my post a'bout great deals found at

Simmons Sporting Goods
2001- 2nd AVE North
Bessemer, AL 35020
PX: (205) 425-4720

Well, I feel its my duty too report that one of the co-owners Mr. Barry
Simmons, age 44 of the famed family was gravely injured in a one car
MVA a'bout 2130 hrs on Oct. 13th, 06. Reports state that he suffered
a brain anuersyum while driving his vechile to a friends house; causing
the vechile too accelerate and veer widly out of control, striking a
dirt culvert about 3' wide by 4.5' deep and finally embedding its-self
into some huge boulders alongside the culvert.

Its my understanding, that Barry is legally brain dead; either from the
anuersyum or possibly the broken neck he suffered during the crash.
Thankfully, no other persons were injured in this accident. The decision
is too be made soon, as to cut off all life support as proper organ
recipients are being located. Barry leaves behind a lovely wife (Gina)
and a 1-1/2 year old son (Caleb).

The Simmons family is known world-wide for their kindness, love, and
generosity to everyone that they come in contact with. This family
owned and operated business has strived here in the southeast since
the early 1900's; with Barry's mother (Mrs. Betty Simmons) still an active
partner in the business. I simply ask all of our faithful THR members to
hit their knees tonight and ask that GOD speed too the Simmons family,
and to bless each of them in this time of need. Respectfully, and many
thanks to each of you, and may you too have a blessed day,

Done.

Thanks to Barry and his family for the willingness to donate his organs. If not for this kind of selflessness, I would have bought the farm a long time ago.

With Much Respect For The Simmons Family, As Well As Our THR Family-

Its with sad news, that I have too report the death of my friend
and co-worker Mr. Barry Simmons age 44 of Bessemer, AL. The
machines were disconnected on Saturday morning, and Barry
was silently called home by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1300 hrs (1:00 PM) on Wednesday,
Oct. 18th from the McAdory Baptist Church located in McCalla, Alabama.
The family will receive friends at the same location on Tuesday evening,
begining at 1700 hrs (5:00 PM).

The family wishes me too thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers,
concerns, condolesences, and phone calls at this time of sorrow.
Calls from all over the United States, and as far away as Iraq have
been reported as being received by the family.

Just to share a moment of happiness for the Simmons family, when
our troops were deployed to Iraq the Simmons family quickly donated
100 rods and reels for use by these troops during their precious time
of R&R. Barry was in charge of heading this act of kindness up. He
will be greatly missed by all.

Here is the working schedule for Simmons Sporting Goods in the wake
of the death of co-owner Barry Simmons; as forwarded too me by the
other co-owners, Clay and Peter Simmons:

On Monday Oct. 16th, the store will be open for business as usual
from 0900 hrs to 1800 hrs.

On Tuesday Oct. 17th, the store will only be open from 0900 hrs
to 1300 hrs.

On Wednesday Oct. 18th, at the request of the Simmons family
the store will be closed out of respect for the last rites of Mr.
Barry Simmons.

We will resume normal operations on Thursday, Oct 19th with
regular store hours 0900-1800. Again, thank you all for the
kindness shown, and may GOD BLESS us all.

FootNote: Simmons Sporting Goods of Bessemer, AL does not
maintain a web site as such. Occassionally, we do sell fishing
gear over on E-bay; under the direction of co-owner Peter
Simmons.

Greeting's To The Silent One (And all Others)

Thank you all so much for the well wishes, phone calls, the help,
thoughts, prayers, concerns, condolesences, and the expression of
kindness and gratitute shown by our High Road members. Words can
not express what the Simmons family would like for me too convey to
you fine people; but if Clay and Peter (Simmons) had the time, they
would thank each of you personally.

Needless to say, we have a great bunch of employees working for
the sporting goods business at Simmons. We have a what I like
to call a "work friendly environment". No harassment, no threats,
no disrespect to anyone. And we haven't forgotten those two most
famous words, "PLEASE and THANK YOU". Whether or not you have
ever visited our store located at 2001 2nd Ave North in Bessemer,
AL you are our friends; and will certainly be treated accordingly.
As I stated earlier, this business opened as mainly a mens only
clothing store in the early 1900's; then it expanded to a pawn
shop. In 1945 it became a family owned and operated sporting
goods store, and remains that way today. I could not ask to be
working for any nicer people. The Simmons family is certainly an
asset to a dying community.

It will be hard going back to work on Thursday, as I'm taking Barry's
death very personal, cuz he was the first person I usually saw in the
morning with his "Sneaky Pete's" breakfast bag. Barry was an avid
Auburn fan, as all of the Simmons family are. I'm a Tennessee Vol's
fan, and we have never had a cross word. The pastors for his last
rites on Wednesday have been announced, and they are the Rev.
Kim Pilkington and the Rev. Bill McCall. Anyone wishing to attend
either the viewing on Tuesday evening; or the actual service on
Wednesday should plan on getting there early, as a large crowd
is expected and seating is limited. Thanks to each and everyone that
has taken the time to respond, as each of you are in our thoughts
and prayers as well. May GOD keep you safe, and out of harms way.

Respectfully,
Dan H. Ford, aka: Ala Dan for Clay, Peter, and Mrs. Betty Simmons-Case.

Rest assured he is in the better place and it is those he leaves behind that bear the real burdon. My prayers and condolences to all.

Take care. Go out and shoot a few rounds for him, my guess, even though I don't know the man, is he would enjoy that.

Don't know if I ever met him, haven't been in Simmon's very often since I live @ 60 miles away. Everyone there has always been #1 when I've visited, tho. I've bought a couple of guns there over the years, and can recommend them as a fine place to shop. Condolences to family friends and co-workers.
