Most ranges here charge $5 range fees for non members. Our answer to the NRA, The SSAA Sporting Shooters Ass of Australia has an indoor rnage in Sydney. I'm a member and they charge $17 and hour, but once inside they let you stay as long as you like. I've pottered away all day sometimes. Mick.

wow 5 bucks sure is nice. wish it was like that here. they only allow one shot per second so i can never practice rapid fire.

I will admit I am out of touch as far as ranges go. I am fortunate enough to own my own range, so I don't go to a pay range. But I got to tell you that $250.00 a month:what: is crazy. Heck you could dang near buy your own outdoor range in most counties for that amount.

$5 per gun for non-members.

No rapid fire, but interesting, helpful folks. Down home feel.

Public range: 12 (3 lanes), 25 (5), 50 & 100 yds.

Membership: $100 + volunteer time. Some classes.
Free reloading equipment.

Membership gets you access to shotgun range & 200 yd rifle range.

Outdoors, in foothills of Cascades, across a nice creek.

Best outdoor deal in two towns.
(Indoor range is much closer in, but much smaller and loud.)

Will probably enroll this year.

I live in Southeast Texas around Beaumont. At one point and time I was a member of the Golden Triangle Gun Club. To be a member you have to be a member of the NRA and the dues were $40 per year. They have a few pistol ranges, 100 yd, 200 yd, and 600 yd rifle ranges, and a skeet area. The reason I joined was to shoot my 50 on the 600 yd range. Nice place but was a pain for me traveling from Buna. Now I do all my shooting at my home, on 20 acres that is. Built my own 100 yd rifle range, with a covered shooting area. So now it cost me nothing but my time and ammo. Not sure what the URL is for GTGC, but you maybe able to goggle it and see if they have an affiliate in your area. Hope this helps.

I usually had access to some open land and used that. Recently around here they charge about 8 bucks for the day, but too many rules and unfriendly people. They don't allow for practical excercises ( drawing from holster), so it's just for target shooting. Guess I have to buy a few loads of dirt for a new backstop.

West Shore Sportsman Association.
Indoor range
2 shoothouses
8 outdoor pistol pits/ranges

On the proper ranges, a shooter can: draw from the holster; rapid fire; shoot on the move. . . There isn't much a shooter cannot do that we might want to, provided its safe.

And we can smoke our cigars, pipes, and of course cigarettes, inside the club house.

In Little Falls, MN there are at least 3 ranges in the area. The one I belong to is pretty nice. It's called the Little Falls Rifle and Pistol Club. One must be an NRA member and then the membership fee is $25.00 per year. It is an outdoor range for rifle, handgun and shotgun and they have a nice clay bird thrower, too. Target stops are there, but bring your own targets, paper, plastic jugs, cans, etc. Just clean up your mess and brass when you are done. Bringing a guest costs an extra $2.00 which you leave in a slotted box, the honor system. The public can come to the range free for two weekends in mid-October to sight in their deer rifles before gun season opens.

All in all a very nice outdoor range very reasonably priced and open seven days a week. A great place to shoot.

Here in CT prices are high. My club outdoor range pistol and rifle only is 135 a year plus work time. That is cheap. Most clubs with full facilities are 250/350 per year with the hartford club being almost 500 bucks. Blue Trail in Walllingford was 185 for an outdoor range plus a field for shotguns. Their prices were $16 a day during the week and 16 an hour on the weekends.

Also the ranges are under attack. Metacon gun club is being sued out of business and the members have had special assesments and fund raisers to pay for lawyers fees.

For one hour $15.00 non-member, $10.00 member. Indoor range, no R.O :D , rapid fire is fine. About the only rule they have that gets enforced is "you shoot it you buy it". Their lack of rules makes a fun range, however due to that fact I only go during times I know I will be the only one there (had some guy bump firing an AK once while I was in the stall next to him, he blew my target clear off the T-Bar :uhoh: ).

I envy you young. At my hole in the wall two stall shooting range we are charged $10 a half hour, and $5 for ever 100 rounds you shoot if you're not a member. The shooting stalls are in a 50x12' room with only two stalls, and the target retreval system is a bike wheel on the ceiling.

It isn't much, but it's all we have :/

The indoor range I use is $100 a year, unlimited use. You can use your own targets and ammo, and no charge to bring a guest. Handgun rentals are $5, but you have to use their ammo. They have pretty competitive prices on handguns, any handgun purchase and the yearly range fee is reduced to $50, in effect giving you another $50 off the guns purchase price.

I go to Grand River Wildlife Management Area. Just short of 3,000 acres of hunting land with a small bit set aside for a shooting range. 25, 50 and 100 yard lanes, half covered, the rest open to the sun on good days and the rain on bad days. Double taps allowed, but no sustained rapid fire, everything but .50BMG allowed. No centerfire rifle on the 25, though. Nice little range.

24 dollars per year, 5 bucks for a day pass. Closed January and February, closed to the public Mondays and Tuesdays due to police use.

The best part? 14.8 miles from my house.

$150/year for a husband/wife (and kids when they're around) membership at the indoor range. That gets me no fee shooting for as long as I want. It's an indoor pistol range that also has two (short) rifle lanes. Also a 10% discount on other assorted stuff (not including firearms).

Since I live in an excesively urban area, it's as good a setup as I'm likely to find convenient to me.

Okay well I guess I get the prize for paying the most:

1) £140 per annum membership
2) £1 to hire a club gun (whether it is an air pistol or a .38 carbine)
3) £3.50 per 100 .22 rounds
4) £8.50 per 50 .38 rounds
5) Paper targets range from 10p to 50p each
5) £100 per annum if you rent a safe at the club

Of course this is in the UK, but still I reckon that is a lot. However, a visitor can come down to the club on the first Sunday of the month and pay only £2 to use the ranges. They then pay for ammo and targets only.

At the indoor range in South Africa, as long as I had bought ammo from him, I could shoot there. It wasn't a very busy range because it was in Hillbrow, Johannesburg ;)

Well for a non retired veteran/civilian it runs $85 a year. Non members are $8 a day. The ranges are outside. There is a club house and small shop for targets, ammo and such. We have 4 trap and skeet ranges 3 dedicated rifle ranges several pistol/rifle ranges, one offical 25 yard range and several small pistol ranges for shooting at ranges less than 25 yards. No rifles capable of shooting over 4100 yards are allowed. No .50's either. We do have a plinking range for what ever you shoot. I'm taking some pumpkins(filled with water) there when they go on sale. Several of the ranges have roofs over the area where one shoots from allowing one to be protected from the sun or shoot while its raining.

some info is out of date in regards to opening hours. Also the club house now serves on Fridays.

What part of Houston are you in? (makes a difference, as to what ranges are in reasonable driving distance ya know..)

I live down here in brazoria county and am a member at Greenwood gun club just outside Brazoria. anual dues just went up to around $65 i think it was (new members also pay a one time $50-something "initiation fee" that goes into the land fund) no stated limit on guests but you're responsible for anything they do. Not gonna detail everything and be boring but, ranges out to 600, plenty of room and i've seen it crowded during a "regular" day (ie not "open house" etc) maybe twice in 5 years.

Bay Gun Club in Port Lavaca, Texas. We pay 30 dollars a year, just go by the police station and check out the key. The local LEOs and coasties qualify there, so there are days the range is closed, but not many. Nice outdoor range. We rent the land from the city for a dollar and upkeep it and in turn the police have a place to shoot as well as local armed citizens. Works out really well. It's a small town deal you're not likely to find in a big city, but I love it!:D

The club puts on shoots for members and we have ultra nice covered, paved shooting areas, electricity, fans on the pistol range, remote resetable steel pistol targets, bench rest quality shooting benches of 6" thick reinforced concrete set on 4" schedule 40 steel pipe legs bolted to the pavement with carpeted tops. 25, 50, 100, and 200 yard ranges. And, we have traps for our shotgunning, but nothing formal.

Anyone interested in membership should go to the First National Bank in Port Lavaca on the first Wednesday of each month, 1930 hours.

I have 3 places to shoot. All of them are free. 1 is my brother-in-laws 79 acer farm. It is 2 minutes from my house but is "closed" during Deer season. 2 is my sisters 45 acer property. but covered in corn part of the year and 3, my buddy's 2 acer place in the country, but not always home either. Hopefully sometime in the next 2 years I will have my own place in the country to shoot. Because it sucks to have a "new too me" Taurus 66 4" .357 mag that I have not shot yet because, 1 it is deer season. 2 it is covered in corn and 3, he wasn't home.

Gosh, I pay so much more than you guys, it's sickening.

I belong to two ranges:

1. Red's Indoor Range in Pflugerville TX. $300.00/ year
Why? Well, it's indoors and they have long daytime hours, so good for any time of year (not that that's a big problem in Texas). But, it's also very convenient so I go there a lot and they know me.

2. Austin Rifle Club (ARC) outdoor range. $100.00/ year (I think)
Why? It's a beautiful outdoor range, and they permit draw-and-shoot. Problem: it's 35 miles from my house which is too far to drive every week (sometimes 2x a week).

First year $75, renewal $25. It's an all outdoor "Sportsman's Club" with a single berm for shooting. One shooter allowed at a time, max range 85 yards. It's out of the way and you never know if it will be packed or deserted. Sometimes I have to wait weeks (or months) to head out with my car loaded and show up to find a 75 person family reunion and children playing frisbee in front of the berm.

The same place also has a fishing pond and a place to shoot trap, but it's all bring-your-own gear. The only place to shoot rifle is a 2 hour round trip and an expensive yearly membership, and the next nearest place is pistol only with a 25 yard max. All outdoors. During the fall I may as well not even try to go shooting because people are lined up trying to sight in their deer rifles, and there's no regulations on how long one could be waiting before your turn arrives. It's a crapshoot. You just never know what you'll find. 1 out of every 5 times I turn around and go home for one reason or another.

$200 initiation Fee
$80 per year

3 pistol ranges, a couple are lighted
100-300 yard rifle range
100 yard rifle range
75 yard LE range
Shotgun range

You get a key and an ID card, unlimited use for a very well maintained facility.

The only problem is the ranges get heavy use for competitions on the weekends and it’s 40 minutes from my house. They’ve also got some serious rules due to urban sprawl. So last year I bought 40 acres and built my own range. I have a 30-meter pistol range and shoot rifle at 50, 100, 200, and 300meters. Costs are:

Construction and gravel $3000
Steel Targets $300
Shooting table for the pistol range $200
Bench for the rifle range $250
Mortgage with double payments $1200

Doing whatever I want, when I want……….priceless. Mill Creek is still a very, very, good deal though.

I currently shoot at the public range which is $5/hour of rifle/pistol. $2.50 per round of skeet/clays. I like it a lot better.

$175 a year for a club with trap, skeet, five stand, 100yrd rifle, 25ft pistol, 25 & 50yrd pistol. Anything involving clay pigeons is $3 a round over and above.

Not having to deal with the run of the mill idiots as well as too many people at the public range makes it well worth the price. :)

NRA Headquarters Range (I'm a life NRA member).
Range fees are $250/yr or $12 per visit for lifers. I don't shoot quite often enough to justifiy the yearly fee so I stick with the $12/visit.

I was looking for an outdoor range to use as well and all I could find locally were a couple of "hunt clubs" and they wanted to charge me $1,400/year for a membership! I laughed and walked away from that.

Found another nice outdoor range that would be happy for me to join for $150/year (unlimited use) but they are a 1.5 hour drive away. Still I'm tempted because it's a nice place and I do get over that way once in a while.

My Local Public (County owned and operated) range cost $10/day or $40/year for in-County residents. Slightly higher for out-of-County residents. This range has on site RO's and added a separate pistol covered range a couple of years ago. They are fairly restrictive on types of firearms and firing (no rapid fire, drawing from a holster, etc.), but, considering it's open to all, I would rather be safe than sorry. Many experienced shooters don't like the restrictions.

Just this year, I joined a local (10 minute drive) club. It offers pistol and rifle up to 300 yards as well as a separate 75 yard pistol range. It's pretty basic but it's great to have something like this available. There are also other nice amenities. The initiation cost is $75 and $50/year dues. There is a 12 hour yearly work hour minimum too. I work as many hours as I can and have met some great folks there.

I moved to this County a few years ago and am very glad for the shooting opporunities offered. In my previous County, you basically had the choice of two commercial indoor ranges. That became so exepensive that I virtuall stopped shooting for 10 years. For me, it was virtually impossible to get an opportunity to join a local club in that jurisdiction. Now that I am shooting more (IDPA primarily) I have been asked if I would like to join several clubs. I guess it helps to show up early and leave late to setup & takedown. :)

$10 a day to shoot all day. Can bring your own ammo. I think it is $250 per year, per person. I would not be able to get my moneys worth by paying per year since I live about 35 miles from the range. I can rent a pistol for $5.00 and shoot all day long, but must buy ammo from range. It's an indoor range.

At one point and time I was a member of the Golden Triangle Gun Club. To be a member you have to be a member of the NRA and the dues were $40 per year.

They raised the dues to $50 last year, I think; I joined right before Hurricane Rita hit. Best shooting-related $50 I ever spent, too...Robert, I live down in Mid-County (Nederland/PA) and before I found out about the Golden Triangle Gun Club, I went to Leger's Range off Highway 90 just west of Beaumont -- about 50 miles round-trip! And I go to the range every week, too, so between range fees and gas, I was spending a good bit of money before I even loaded the first cartridge in the magazine. I figured it up one day, and not counting the gas money I spent every week, I am saving about $160 a year now. And the GTGC has some good people in it, too.

Indoor range: $15/day, or $10/day + $29 /year, or $200/year unlimited range time. Have to buy their targets.

Outdoor: $15/day, or $180/year unlimited range time.

Trap/Skeet Club, also has covered handgun range and 200yd rifle range, SASS on first Sat: $100/year + $3/day (limited to Fri Sat Sun, open 6 hours) Guest limited to twice a year per guest.

I only go to one of the first 2 if the club isn't open or taking a repeat guest.

I am sorta like Vern, I do not pay as I shoot on private property.

Honest, I burned all sanctioned cards, and memberships when the Great Equipment Race Started in the early 80's.

I have been on a public range, I forget when it was, and I was paid to be there.
I have been on a high dollar private club property, with private Sporting Clays, 5 stand, Skeet and game. I guess been 10 yrs ago. Membership was $25/$50K/$100k up front and so much a year. (depended on what one wanted to do and how often and family members) I was flown in, to instruct, assist, and all my expenses covered. Then I hunted hard for 3 days felling quail and other birds for ME.

Nope, give me private property for now. I might change my mind someday...maybe.

Here in Rockford, IL we have a private indoor pistol range. There are actually 3 ranges in the building. Membership is $130 per year, but if you volunteer some hours you can get a reduction. You also have to maintain your NRA membership to be a club member. Once a member, you can use the range 24/7, 365 days a year. Its heated for the winter, but no A/C in the summer, but I still think its a great deal.

Membership is $50 for the year, and they ask for a $2 donation to maintain the backstop each time you use the indoor range, which is 50', 10 lanes, usually deserted and open for use 24/7 (as a member you get the clubhouse combo, everything is self serve, no rangmaster bs). Also included in member fees is free use of 175yd rifle range, free use of the automated trap-range (supply your own bids and operate it yourself),free 50yd bowrange, and free use of the clubs stocked pond and 300 acres of hunting land. Seems like a pretty good deal seeing the prices some of you pay, but then again it is rural upstate ny.

$35/year individual (going up to $40 next year) $50/family (not going up) for the fish and game club. Used to ask but not enforce a 5 hour work assesment or $50, that's changing to a flat $10 fee for everyone to get a range badge. Includes 8 cowboy action lanes, 8 125 yard rifle lanes with covered benches, 2 pistol lanes (one has cover), a .22 lane with permanent spinner targets, trap, archery, campground, fishing pond, and a clubhouse with bar. Free target stands, free cardboard and usually targets. Guests can shoot once per year per guest. Cold range except for "known IDPA or Cowboy shooters". No full-auto, max 10 round rapid-fire strings. Open 9-7 (or dark) except Sunday 9-5.

About 2 days a month the cowboy shooters tie up the whole range, but other than that I've never seen a wait. Can't complain about the cowboys, since they are responsible for resurrecting the club.

I am currently a student in NY, so I've decided not to become a member of the range I frequent when I'm home.

I don't get an itemized receipt, but typical costs:

lane for an hour - $20
gun rental for an hour - $15 (until I move out I can't get my own gun.) :cuss:
targets - typically 5 @ $0.30ea - $1.5 (I could get cheaper targets, but I like this target and it wouldn't make that much difference)
3 boxes of 9mm (range gun, range ammo) i'll guess about $20 total

With tax that's about $60. If only I could put that extra $15+/visit towards a new gun...:banghead:

Family Memberships ~ $120/year. $2 range fee any time you shoot. $6 range fee for non-member guests. NRA sanctioned but NRA membership is not required.

Tacticle competitions, IPSC, Fallling Plates, Bowling Pin, Varmint, Cowboy, Rimfire/Centerfire Bullseye Indoor, Rimfire rifle Indoor, Outdoor Bullseye and Duello, and other competitions every weekend. Also ongoing leagues competing with a local public owned range. There's always something going on. Three 25/50yd outdoor pistol ranges. Big pistols use the short out door rifle ranges of 50yds, 75yds, 100 yds, and 200 meter. 200 meter has pop-up targets. We share the rifle range with the Bow club for competitions once or twice a year. There's a rimfire youth shooting program. And we have a few AR's just for youth shooting.

Open 9am to dusk/9pm. Serve yourself card locked gates. Bring your own ammo. No rapid fire rule unless the shooting competition requires it. (dumping five bowling pins in less than 3.8 seconds sometimes requires some pretty fast shooting.)

We're pretty spoiled out west.

In PA the average Indoor range is $12 to $15. The place I go is $12 with a one hour time limit, which is usually not enforced unless they are crowded. Some PA state game lands have small 25/50/100 yard ranges that are free.

I want to join Delaware County Field & Stream which has a huge facility less than 5 miles from my home and cost $150 for a years membership (unlimited use of all ranges). Problem is I need referrals from 2 members and I'm still new to the area. Shameless plea...any high roaders who are also member of DCFS, and are willing to OK me, please let me know. In Mass we have Sportsmans clubs. They are private orginzations that have full facilities, such as club house/s, clay sport fields, rifle ranges and indoor/outdoor pistol ranges, and the larger clubs own 100s of acres for hunting/conservation. To join one has to go through background checks, and formal interviews to weed out the undesirables. Membership is exclusive, so it can take a long time to be accept if you don't know someone who is a member. To pay for all their ammenties the annual fees are expensive. I know most of the clubs within a 30 mile radius from here are charging over $100+other useage fees. I know of others clubs in the eastern part of the state outside of Boston are $500+ a year. I don't belong to a club do to the high prices so I don't shoot very often except on some land my family owns.

Gotta love these people that post "it costs XX amount of $ around here" but don't give a location. That's useless info. At least narrow it down to a country or a state or maybe even a part of a state.
I live in Frisco, Tx just north of Dallas, and the good, local, outdoor ranges have either been shut down by the anti's or bought out by developers. This is a "family friendly" town which translates to " P. C. Dominated" town. The only local range is a indoor range that charges $18.50 per lane to shoot shoulder to shoulder with a little partition dividing shooters and casings bouncing off your head. Just good for punching holes in paper! My range bag is full of 45 casings even though I'm not shooting a 45 (yet) when I get home. :what:
We will be moving to East Texas soon where there are some good ranges at a reasonable prices. I'll probably buy a yearly membership there.:p

I have 2 indoor ranges within 10 miles of the house. Both charge between 11-14 bucks per hour for a lane after purchasing a yearly 'range card' for 5 or 10 bucks. Lanes can be shared, and you can bring your own ammo. One is pistol caliber only, the other allows shooting rifle calibers up to 30-06 (which gets mighty loud indoors). Both run about 200 a year for a membership I believe - I'm not a yearly member yet at either location.

There is a WMA about 20 miles south of me that offers Trap/Skeet and outdoor Rifle/Pistol that I have been wanting to try but have not had the time. Not sure what the costs are to shoot there but I'd like to find out.
