Run over to Jim Wilson's web site and under gun smoke read his article on night sights. Really good points. http://www.sheriffjimwilson.com/

first only one of my defensive pistols has nite sites.
that said no one should believe that they (nite sites) are a replacement for a flashlite, but unless your holding the lite behind your pistol, they still make siteing in low lite easier.

Not really any news there. As one-shot-one mentioned, night sights are not a replacement for a flashlight. But that doesn't mean that night sights are not useful in certain situations.
I took a class at SigArms Academy that did some low-light work. Even when using the flashlight, I found that night sights helped me pick up the sights easier.
Regarding the Ashley express big dot sights, the guys at SigArms Academy said that Ayoob came down one time to do a test. He wanted to test to see if the Ashley express big dot sight was an advantage. In particular, did it speed up aquisition in low light conditions. They had a number of shooters participating. They used guns that were otherwise identical except for the sights -- either Ashley express or traditional night sights. They found no difference in speed with the Ashley express big dot, but it did result in poorer accuracy at longer ranges. I don't have any documentation of this, only what I recall that the instructors told me, so take it with that caveat. If the big dot sight works for you, great.
