As the title suggests:

Does a Ruger Blackhawk 357/9mm convertible use moon clips?

I just came across one of those rare deals that you cannot pass up. Heading back to home from the range I thought I would stop by the gun store on the way back and see what they had new.

I found a Ruger Blackhawk from 1987 that had barely been fired, 99% condition, it had the original box, warranty card, owners manual, and a convertible cylinder for 9mm. How sweet is that? Hardly any ring on the cylinder and only one worn blueing spot. So being the enterprising young American with his plastic (who pays it off every month, no bankruptcy and exorhibant interest for me thank you) I plunked down a 100 dollars on the gun for layaway purposes. Just a whole new reason to look forward to an upcoming birthday and Christmas. Blowing up bottles at the range when it is 30 degrees and watching the poor fiance freeze as I crow.

It has been a good weekend! BTW the gun was 100-150 dollars cheaper than any I have seen online or rusting in other gunstores.

No moonclip needed. The case headspaces on the ledge in the chamber and the ejector punches out the empties. Think about it....if a moonclip was used the cylinder would have to be removed every time you loaded and unloaded.

Exactly right. The ejector rod punches out each individual case from the single action blackhawk. It should make a nice shooting piece, with the price of 9mm so cheap.:)

I forget to mention the best part about this gun:

No goofy safeties or locks on my gun!

I do reload for all of my guns so the price of ammo/market fluctuation does not affect me too bad. I already load for 9mm so no biggie but now I get to play with 2 new calibers. .357 and .38 Special. Already been poking in the reloading manuals.

ps: the moon clips are heck to get through the loading gate :D :D
