I'm trying to decide between the new S&W 620 and the Ruger GP100. I am a noob to guns and this would be my first gun. I have chosen the style, revolver, and the ammo, .357, but am struggling to decide on which model. The price difference on GunsAmerica.com seems to be about $100. I have shot the GP100 which I rented and really liked it. But it'll be near impossible to find a place where I can rent a 620. Has anyone shot both? I do lean towards the S&W because of the 7 shot cylinder and of course it just being an S&W. Is the extra $100 worth it?

If you can find a GP100 with the same trigger that you liked, get it. (my rule of thumb - if you take the gun to the range and like it, that's a hint to buy it.)

The Ruger's are tough as all heck.

Usually smith has a better trigger, but if a ruger fits you, get it and count yourself lucky because it is likely as not a little cheaper.... then buy the smith later because 2 wheelguns are more fun than one. :)

I shot both and I ended up with the GP100. To me the GP100 shot, looked, and felt better to me so thats what made me end up with the Ruger over the Smith. There both nice guns

Save up enough to buy the Smith -- then buy the Ruger and $100 worth of ammo!

I'll chime in because I've shot both and owned a GP100. In fact, I've owned a lot of Ruger revolvers, all excellent, DURABLE, accurate, utterly unimpugnable guns.

Sold every one of them.

It's probably more a personal prefernce than anything else, but to me Smiths feel. . . nicer. And the triggers are undeniably better, some of the best out there if you hit a real gem.

Neither will let you down though, so follow your heart.
