Just picked up one of these today. Cute little bugger. Figured I'd use it as a BUG, or primary if I can't carry a real gun.

In pretty good shape, with the two-tone magazine. I guess that's original.

SN 362xxx. Anybody know the year of that? I think it's about 1928- 1929

Paid $250, which seems decent, compared to the prices on Gunsamerica.

I thought getting a new spring from Numrich would be a good idea. Any other parts you think I should get also?

Any ideas about the best defense ammo?

Can't wait to shoot it.

Just got off the phone with Colt. They said the date was 1926.
They're sending me a manual for it.

The 1908 Colt is somewhat larger then others of its kind, but you will find that it is very reliable - or should be. Besides the grip and manual safety it has a magazine disconect - remove the magazine and it won't fire, even if a cartridge remains in the chamber. While you're at the range check and be sure it's functioning correctly by chambering a round, removing the magazine, pointing it downrange and pulling the trigger. It shouldn't fire.

The two-tone "acid dipped" magazines are correct for the age of your gun. However make sure the lips are not bent or cracked at the back, which isn't uncommon. Replacement magazines are available.

Other then the firing pin spring, recoil spring, and possibly the magazine springs you shouldn't have to replace anything. Wolff Spring Co. makes high-quality replacements.

Ammunition: I reccommend top quality ball. Reliable feeding is more inportant then expansion, and in any case success will require close placement with a pistol that has barely acceptable sights - and some wouldn't be that generous in the description.
