Help! I cant stop!!!

I have been bitten by the gun bug. Everytime I buy a new gun, the VERY NEXT DAY I'm looking around for my 'next' gun.
It's getting to the point where I need to use money for things like food and bills, but there's a GUN I want and I figure I can eat later...
Well maybe it's not that bad yet but dang! I used to spend my 'net time reading news sites and fark.com
Now I spend my 'net time hopping from gunbroker to thehighroad to ammoman to glocktalk to etc...
I dont need any more guns. I'm still buying them. What can I do to take my mind of the ACQUISITION of guns?
Is there a gun-nuts anonymous? :scrutiny:

Forgoing food for gun money? As long as you are feeding your family, or are single, it's fine.
This "gun diet" is actually beneficial. If you live in a CCW state, it makes extra room in the pants for more comfortable IWB carry. :D

As long as you still pay the bills and have the basics why is this a bad thing? ;)

Been there....did it this week :D. I will say this....atleast Ive got a new hobby now. Guns arent as expensive as raceing....and you can play with guns more than playing with cars :D.
What I hate the most is the buyers guilt I get. I get home with it, and go...."why did I buy this?" Until I get to go shoot it....then its all butta

Now now....
It's not nice to make fun of poor souls on the "Gun Nut Diet", seems to be THE most effective diet around.

Join the club!!!
We have been trying to stop - so far have gone a month without buying a gun. Only 580 days to go - we said we would buy one in December 2004.
Let's just say that we added up the money we spent on guns in the last three years and it is within a hundred dollars from our credit card debt. What a coincidence!!!
I keep telling Cslinger that he can always sell his truck to buy more guns. That seems to work since his truck is his favorite vehicle he's ever owned. But I might need another argument soon.
Now, who can come up with an argument for me to stop?
Seriously, if you have a valid reason why you can't afford more guns (mortgage, food, kids, credit cards, car payments, retirement fund - not necessarily in that order) - don't get any more until you have cash specifically put aside for guns that does not jeopardize any other money commitments above. Otherwise, knock yourself out.

I havent even been able to pick my FAL up at the dealer yet (stupid 10 day waiting period), but the day I got back from starting the paperwork I started browsing around for my next purchase. I cant buy most guns for another month (1 gun a month on the black rifles and pistols in MD), so I dont understand why I'm looking so early...
I need some serious help, can we see about getting the room the AA uses on Tuesdays during lunch time?

I work 12 hour shifts, either 3 or 4 days a week. And we have been having lots of overtime available... guess where just about all the money is going!
Though I am proud of myself 'cause my school loan is almost done. :D
I have way too many DVDs, video games, books, and now too many guns. But then I remember, I can never have too many, 'cause there are always more of everything that I want!

Once you have a certain number of guns, new purchases become redundant.
I already have 2 of those, already have 4 guns in that caliber, etc.
Now I basically only have a few more guns to get to satisfy my curiousity, and they are mostly expensive, or special editions.
So, in process of saving enough money to buy the next expensive gun, if I see the special edition I want, it's time to buy.
Once you get to that point, the guns aren't the only limiting factor.
(Ammo availability, having a fully stocked ammo cabinet, filling up the reloading cabinet, getting a better reloading press, getting more dies, getting more and better brass, etc.)
It really never ends, it just slows down a little, but you wind up spending the same amount of money.

You plan the next gun as soon as you buy one? Heck, I just put one on layaway Saturday, and I already know the next few I want to buy, and I'm kicking around the idea about the next few after those!

First the bad news: There is no cure.
The good news is with treatment you can learn to live with your ailment.
Try buying assesories for guns you already own. Holsters, mags, sights are ususally much cheaper than a new gun and can be a temporary treatment.
It is important to get in a support group, Like THR. Remember we are all here to help.

I hear you, man
I'm going through withdrawls right now.
My fiance told me I need to wait until after we've moved into the house we are buying & paid for our wedding before I can buy any more guns.
Not sure I'm gonna make it...

I feel your pain brother!
As I tell my wife: It's not "buying guns" ... it's "investing in precious metals!"
I started the "un-official" "Gun a Month Club" (more like "Gun a Week") during the height of my addiction .... however, since we bought our new house, I've been too busy and haven't had the resources to live-up to my "commitment" to the club. I nominate you to take my place.
So, now, as President, you have an OBLIGATION to buy more guns (ha.ha).

My universal solution to giving up stuff:
Give it up for Lent.
(substitute any other religious reason if necessary).
Once you've gone without it for 40 days, it's not too hard to give it up permanently or for extended periods of time. And the religious aspect keeps you from breaking it during the 40 day time period.
It's like going cold turkey from smoking -- it sucks to be off for the first 6 weeks but after that, you don't feel the cravings any more. For the record, I've never smoked beyond an occasional cigar so I don't profess to know what it's like to quit smoking cold turkey.
I've used this method to stop myself from a lot of "bad" habits, mostly dietary. Bacon, ice cream, instant noodles, etc.
Instant noodles were really tough to give up -- during law school I lived with two Korean guys who introduced me to kimchee instant noodles. If you like spicy food, you will LOVE this stuff ... and I like spicy food. We'd get cases of the stuff and down them every day. Each packet had like 40% of your RDA of saturated fat and one packet was never enough.
After a while, I had to stop. So I gave them up for Lent. Haven't had one for over five years. And that includes the regular instant noodles too.
HTH!
Justin
