Well I picked up my Ruger P97, yeah I know wooohooo. I did not have a good deal of time, but I put some fmj and lswc down range.
First the pistol. P97DC (The American Makarov) blued model, fit and finish is well...Ruger. I was not expecting les bear on the slide to frame but its good for a rugged plastic pistol. I rattles when you shake it but that is not important, if it shoots good that is what matters. After cleaning it I gave it the once over and I was impressed with the design. It reminds me of a Makarov, in design and shape of the slide. But I tell you what, these rugers are built like tanks and should be treated as such. All things aside it was a good purchase.
Time at the range, remember I only had about 25 minutes to shoot it. POA is weird, I am use to putting the front site post on what I want to hit, apparently this pistol has a 6 O clock hold on it. With winchester white box the gun was perfect, holding groups at 5" was fair, but nothing to write home about. I think the hard part was making the transition from my 1911 trigger to a double action/single action. After I figure the trigger out it was hold 2.5 groups. I had 3 ftf, it was reloaded ammo that was out of spec, that was my fault. Had I been using all factory spec ammo it would have gone 100% reliable. This thing fed just about everything I had in the bag.
After a few hundred more rounds I will have no problems carrying this beast. I would have to say that it is a deal for the money.
I dont have a camera so I cant show you the targets. And like I said above a 5" group is nothing to brag about. Oh. I forgot to mention the distance was 25'.
Let me know how yours runs.
