The shows tomorrow! I've been hankering for a plain-jane 1911. I've also been bitten by the C&R bug. I'm thinking about getting a Sistema rather than the Mil-Spec Springfield. I can save $100 and have more close replica to the original.
What do you guys think?

My $0.02:
If you are looking for a collector's item, built with pre-War quality, but don't plan to customize the piece, get a Sistema.
If, OTH, you are looking for something to build up into a customer 1911, go for the Springfield Milspec. That way, you're not modifying a historically valuable piece.

'Customer'... is that like, more custom than custom? :p
Just kiddin' ya! :neener:

If Mr. Dremel (or any sort of custom part) is ever going to touch the pistol or you dream of your gunsmith doing all sorts of stuff to it, *please* get the Springfield. Leave the Sistemas for the C&R guys who keep them in original condition.

My mil-spec is a good gun however if you shake it a tiny bit you can hear the slide rattle. It shoots fair so im happy with it, but I paid about 100 bucks too much for mine:banghead:

I have a Systema that I am thus far keeping GI as an example of an "Army .45", even though not our army. It is a better made gun than most current production line guns. All it really needs to be a fine shooter is better sights. If I want to use it more it will get them. I doubt I will live long enough for it to appreciate much in value and I don't really care about future generations of collectors. Do bear in mind that these are well-used surplus guns. You might not get one as nice as mine.

The Systema pistols I have handled and shot have varied widely in their desirability, though I generally like the a lot. A factor no one has mentioned is the type of transaction: a privately sold used Systema in decent condition, acquired without BATF entanglements, would be MUCH preferred to a new entry level pistol and government involvement. Of course, here in Oregon, private transactions are still between buyer and seller only.
