First date!

Well, I went on a first date tonight! During dinner we started talking about guns and concealed carry and whatnot. I told her that I was carrying, she didn't believe me, so she reached over and patted my waist and found my firearm.

We went on... she kept talking more and more about guns, and the night ended with us walking across the parking lot to Gander Mountain where she bought her first gun! She decided on a little snubby Taurus .38 because it was "cute"! I suppose they're are worse reasons to pick a gun!

Damn... what a great woman!

Well done on finding a potentially fine woman.

Now tell her you're carrying handcuffs too and see what happens.

Color me skeptical: :scrutiny:

* A story that sounds too good to be true...usually is.
* New members with fantastic stories get extra scrutiny.
* New members who'se member names declare themselves to be IN Illinois, who also claim to be carrying concealed get triple scrutiny, especially when their email is for an Illinois educational institution.
* New members who claim their date pops across the street and buys her first gun, wow, jeez, just like that get quadruple scrunity. They hand out FOIDs at Gander Mountain's door these days?

Hey, I'll apologize if youv'e got a credible explanation for all this, but I think my skepticism is warranted.

I interpreted his user name to mean he spent a lot of time in Indiana and Illinois. Either that or Indiana is better than (greater than, >) Illinios. Lives in one and goes to school in the other, maybe?

You're right about the need to scrutinize, however....

In this case I agree with the latter, it is common is geekspeak to use > as greater than.

Our first date was similar. Guns is one of my favorite topics in the midst of those who might be brought into the light, and it was no different at a pizza and wine thing my group did once a week. She started coming to these shindigs, and having some military background she happily talked guns with me.

One thing led to another, and she was showing up at my place for our first date. What to my wondering eyes is held under arm? A gray ruger pistol case. Come to find out she had a ruger 22/45 that was in bad shape and disrepair. Because I had been talking guns, she figured I could fix it up for her.

Long story short, the first time we hung out at home turned into a huge gun cleaning date. When I hugged her at the end of the night, she smelled like breakfree CLP. A cleaned, lubed, and protected nymph.

ADDED:

As I was writing the above, she started reading over my shoulder. She says that the only reason she initially went out with me was so that I could fix her gun. After seducing her, she proudly proclaims no desire for any other man. :D

On a related note, my wife's birthday was Sunday the 15th. I got her a Vector Arms Uzi carbine. She was geeked! The range I have a membership at was closed on Monday, so on Tuesday she invited a female friend from work to go shooting with us. They both had a blast!! (pun intended) Not only did they both shoot the Uzi, but my S&W 66-4(with .38 special ammo), my Glock 22, and even my Kimber .45! They made me promise to take them again ASAP.

Ironically, my wife started off afraid of guns. On our honeymoon at Caesar's Pocono Resorts, one of the activities was to go shooting at a gun range. The range had a variety of guns, from a .22 pistol to an AK, and yes, an Uzi. She didn't shoot that first day, because she couldn't hear the RSO and it was so crowded. I told her I'd be glad to take her the next day, when she could get some one-on-one instruction. Sure enough, we go and we're the only ones there. The RSO takes her through (with me on the camcorder) and the rest is history.

Just goes to show that with a little patience and the right training, you too can turn your woman from a scared little Mrs. into an assault rifle toting lead slinger!

Eleven Mike, no, this is a fairly typical Hoosier first date.

You get the girls who have guns or the ones who were raised around them and do not care if you have them or not as guns are a "man thing". Very pro or indifferent is typical here.

No, it's the buying her first gun right then and there I don't buy. Then again, maybe she'd been pondering it for a while. Or, maybe she's just impulsive. Or, maybe she can just afford to lay down two or three hundred dollars on a whim. Must be nice.

IN>IL

Some were right on the handle... I was born and raised in Illinois and moved to Indiana this summer and I"m loving it! Freedom to own and carry firearms... it's a beautiful thing!

Second, the young lady I was out with had been thinking for a few months about getting a gun. Her parents always had shotguns and rifles in the house and she enjoyed shooting those when she was younger, but she didn't have anyone to teach her how to use a pistol since she's origianally from Michigan and, like me, just recently moved to central Indiana.

Plus, we didn't go to Gander Mountain with buying a gun in mind, but simply just to look at guns. After she found a lil snubby for just under $300.00, she decided to buy it. She thought a gun would be more expenseive, especially after I told her what I paid for the Glock 27 on my belt.

And yeah, Eleven Mike, it is nice to just be able to throw down $200 - $300 for a gun on a whim... that's how I buy most of my pistols! I'm a 1911 man, so I am more in the $500 - $1,000 range though.

Thank God for women like her... and thank God for states like Indiana!

Tell her to take it easy on the little critter.

One of the folks in the point shooting class this weekend had a cute .38 snubbie Taurus.

It didn't care for having 400 rounds run though it in a day and quit working.:o We're afraid the internals just couldn't take it.

Check with ElTejon for courses the 2 of you can take together. Sure makes a fun weekend and guarantees that you get to show off your skills with the plastic fantastic.

Maybe I'm cynical (actually, i KNOW im cynical), but it sounds to me like she doesn't have alot of personality or self-identity. I mean really, you buy a gun on the first date because the topic of guns came up? Had you been talking about how you love to go fishing, would she have gone home with a canoe strapped to the top of her car?

<sigh>

Maybe im just jealous.

"A lot of women nowadays would be affended if you had a firearm on you during your first date. Sounds like you found a good girl."

Whether she is offended or not, it's a sound idea IMO. Never know who you're really dealing with on that first date, and for all you know a crazy jealous ex-boyfriend wil jump out of the shadows at you. Yep, carry on the first date always! Whether she finds out about it is another matter! :) It's rough out there in the single world! Good luck to both of you!

The story aside, carrying on a first date isn't a bad idea, and not just because of psychotic exes on her part. Never underestimate the female sex. They can be just as dangerous as the males. As somebody's sig line here says, "In God we trust, all others are suspect."

good one, Lupinus!

Thankfully, most of the women I know are pro to one extent or another: I've got many female friends that want to go shooting, my mother-in-law who helped set up the range for a cowboy shoot, to my wife (who you can ask Monkeyleg about: she was having lOADS of fun at the MG shoot)
