What Happened?

I was watching some "cowboy" shooting on a show the other day and was put off by a few things.

-These guys are loading their rounds so light that the recoil is in the .22LR ballpark.

-They are shooting these super-light loads at huge targets less than 10ft away.

-Most of them are wearing multicolored scarfs and have dangly fringe festooned upon their clothing. I'm talking about the men here, I don't have a problem with women wearing this odd junk.

The last contact I had with this sport a good while back was considerably different. The guys used loads that were actually useful for something other than making a huge square of metal three feet in front of them go "ping". They used to use some paper targets that required good hits for a good score. Also, they didn't used to look like rejects from a gay-pride parade.

What happened to this sport? How about some new rules to bring it back into line?

The sport has changed ..."they" seem to like the clown-cowboy look and the air-gun ballistic. Could live with some of it, but sure do wish at least one or two were as filthy-dirty as the average guy was of that time period.

All in all, the current trend in dress code might be a good way to get more of the gay community into shooting.

What... nobody here is going to disagree with me?

Wow. I figured the 1/4 powder 3/4 cornmeal crowd would have swarmed by now. They must have their own forum.

What is it called? I will repost this thread there.

YUP! Cornmeal. It is used as a filler over the powder to take up chamber space in light loads. It reduces the distance the ball has to travel from the cylinder to the barrel. Cornmeal is used because it compresses...

What happened is that the "Gamers" have taken over the sport. Just like they did most of the other shooting sports. They have no need of history, just win at any cost! Ultra light loads, super slick actions, speed rigs, 500rds a week in practice, all the things that a working gunny either dosn't have the time, or money, for. They will continue to dominate the course of fire untill regulations are installed that have an upper AND a lower velocity limit, and/or they are put into a diffrent catagory seperate from the others.
Just my opinion, it's worth whatever you paid for it!

They are having fun, it's a shooting sport that is getting more and more shooters male and female. Who needs to be beat on by recoil to have FUN, it's not cowboy tactical it is for Fun.

I will have to agree with oneshooter on this. Exactly my opinion too. I was watching a little stock car racing this weekend and it struck me. 55 years ogo the cars racing were driven to and from the race. No longer the caes. I don't think CAS would ever get like that but the similarities are there.
