My late husband left a Llama revolver, the kind you have to cock before shooting. I am living alone and want it only for protection. While discussing it with my brother-in-law on the phone, I foolishly cocked the gun. How do I uncock it without shooting? I tried to unload it, but the revolving part (whatever you call it) won't disengage. I don't want anyone to know I have this gun because most people I know freak out when the word is mentioned. And I don't want my brother-in-law to know how foolish I was.

Hold the hammer back with your thumb and slowly pull the trigger. Still holding the hammer, lower it slooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwllllllyyyy, and release the trigger.

You may get a nasty pinch if you mess it up, but if you put another finger or perhaps a pen or something between the hammer and the frame, it makes for a more foolproof decocking.

Make sure the firearm is pointed in a safe direction in case it does discharge.

And please don't take this the wrong way, but please find a qualified person to show you how to use your revolver before you rely on it for protection.

Here I found this. It's a Ruger instruction manual but it's for a gun that works very similarly to yours.

Go to page 17 (page 18 of the manual, page 17 of the pdf) and observe their decocking instructions and illustrations.

You should use both hands. It's much easier when you're using a finger and a thumb on the hammer with the other hand holding the gun, versus a finger on the trigger and that thumb on the hammer.

Congratulations on a successful operation! While this is easy for folks who have done it a number of times, it can be VERY difficult for someone who has never done it before, and, as pointed out above, can be extremely dangerous. Even those who think that they can do it sometimes err. It must always be done under circumstances where an accidental discharge will not be catastrophic.

Congrats ! Now you might want to push the cylinder release (that button looking thing on the left side behind the cylinder) forward to release the cylinder and swing the cylinder to the left.

After the cylinder is swung completely to the left you should push on the rod that sticks forward out of the cylinder - this will push the cartridges out of the gun.

Save them for later and swing the empty cylinder back into the gun until it latches. (make sure all cartridges are out of the gun) . When you learn more about the guns operation and how everything works, you will be able to re-load it at some point in the future with the knowledge that you can handle it safely.

Unless I miss my guess, you do NOT have to cock it to fire it, you can also fire it just by pulling the trigger--even if it is NOT cocked.

First, unload the revolver as described in the post above.

Then, look for any identifying information and post it here. Someone will be able to give you some more information about how to safely operate your firearm.
