How stupid was I?

I recently needed to buy a revolver, so I went into my favorite local shop looking for something cheap.
I walked out with something that wasn't quite the cheapest:
A S&W Model 67 - 4" K-frame stainless in .38 special.
By the serial number, made in 1972, but never fired.
In original box, with all accessories, complete with registration card.
So - how much should I have paid?

Crap shoot. You'll see a WIDE range of prices nationwide.
In Northern Virginia you'd probably expect to pay between $300 and $350.

Like Mike says, your miles will vary. Prices for used guns are regional.
BTW, I was issued a Model 67 and wish it was sold to me. It was a sweet shooting revolver. If you get a lot of pleasure shooting or owning it, don't fret about the price.

Even if you paid the current retail price of a new one, you got a good deal. I own a 1970 era new model 10 and it is better made than any new SW gun. Look at the fit on yours, check the cylinder in lockup. Feel the trigger pull. Read the barrel cylinder gap (will probably be about .004" to .006").
Then go look at the new ones with MIM parts, frame mounted firing pins, and sloppy fit and you'll realize the old guns are worth more than the new ones. I would pay $500 for an unfired SW wheelgun from the "old days".

I'll stab at $350 ..... and that would not have upset me if I were the buyer. I paid $400 early this year for my M27-2 ... a 1977 vintage ...... it was in a presentation box and was pretty mint.
On reflection, £350 might have been better for that but ... having sought one to replace one I had many years back ''must have'' came into the equation and so ..... it was mine! Love it to bits!:)

Ahh! Out here in kali I see "LNIB" model 27's going for about $650 and up. And the definition of "like new" is "wasn't fired too much and has no rust you can see".

They're is an old saying, "if you pay too much for a good quality gun don't worry - the price will catch up." I think the key here is that you have the original box and accessories - these will enhance the value in the future. I wouldn't worry about the cost, just enjoy what you bought.
